Japanese magazine Corocoro have announced that they will be revealing the entire Smash Bros. roster, and all stages appearing in the 3DS version by August 12. Perhaps a new Smash Direct will be shown just before? corocoro.tv/next/

Well, I guess this is a way so that Japan doesn't ruin any surprise for anyone by spoiling it for everyone all at once.
I don't like this :C That's another whole month I won't be able to internet...

Maybe it's because Corocoro hyped up lackluster Pokemon info in the past, but I'm taking this as 'Corocoro reveals the complete starting roster/stages near the release'.
If the complete roster actually will be in the magazine I'm also betting on a Direct doing the same a few days before it.

Keep in my CoroCoro tends to get leaks earlier to their official release. Seems like Sakurai doesn't care for keeping secrets this time as the Internet spoils everything right away.
Personally I am okay with knowing the full roster before hand. It has been like that since the N64 game for me. So anyone who really hates spoilers need to take shelter starring early August.

Nintendo in general don't seem to care about keeping secrets any more. They announced all the secrets in Mario Kart 8 and Mario 3D World before the games were out too.

Did they say anything about this particular book? Because generally speaking, this kind of game guides released before game are usuually "simplified" versions, and it's entirely possible that "all characters/stages" exclude the hidden ones.
Not that I don't want to know the full roster beforehand, but with this and Sakurai's "reaching the bottom of trailers" comment, I'm getting a feeling that the amount of new characters will be fewer than previously. I definitely do want to see post-release character announcements, be it new or returning characters - unless they're announcing characters left and right for the rest of this month.
Also, stages. We have only 18 stages for each version, while the announced character count was cranked up to 35 (+3 Mii Fighters).

Now I'm starting to wonder if any of the characters even have to be unlocked this time.

It has recently come to my attention that corocoro did the same thing with Brawl, but it did NOT have anything beyond the default characters and stages. So perhaps this isn't as Earth shattering.

At this point, and until release, the starter/hidden line is blurry. For one, all four FE characters can't possibly be there at the start. The two newcomers should be hidden at least.
Whether hidden characters are a thing or not this time is still unknown. And won't be known until the game is out. Surely, there has to be something big before the Corocoro leak comes out?
And then there's the rest of the stages.

Yeah, back in 2007 they advertised the same thing, then printed a list of all known characters available on the website at that point. Pretty damn anticlimactic. Maybe they'll be able to reveal a new stage or two though..

I'd say stages are likely, if just because we have a few, like the Kalos Elite Four, that are on the website somewhere but not full on Miiverse confirmed yet.
