I don't just like video games, I also like board games! A recent favorite of mine is HeroQuest!
Who here has played HeroQuest? Who here has at least of it? Who here has never heard of it?
For those who fall into the latter category, HeroQuest is a fantasy adventure board game published in the UK in 1989 and released in the US in 1990. It can best be described as "DnD for Beginners", where one player takes on the role of the evil sorcerer "Zargon" (or "Morcar" in the UK version) and takes control of the dungeon and all of the monsters in it, while four players take on the role of the heroes: The Barbarian, Dwarf, Elf, and Wizard, and try to complete the objectives laid out for them.
It's never been reprinted, but maintains a steady cult following to this very day due to the expandable nature of the game. It uses a modular board with miniature doors and furniture, and a "Quest Book" full of 14 different maps for Zargon to build. The big draw is that Zargon is given a blank map with which to design his own quests. The options are near-endless. Later on, expansion sets were released for the game that introduce more monsters, items and traps. Ye Old Inn is devoted to putting up fan-made expansion stuff for download, since obviously no official expansion stuff has been released since the early 90s.
I figured if I could get you guys interested in this game, you might be willing to play with me. I have a method of playing across the Internet via an application called VASSAL. If any of you guys are intrigued, just tell me and I'll let you know how VASSAL works.
