Suicune and Pikachu's body proportions feel weird. It's like that pic can go straight to the Freakachu thread. I think their proportions are the same as normal, Pikachu's just in a really strange pose. I actually really like the new designs in this. They've made the Pokémon more realistic by adding things like muscle tone and texture, without changing anything about their body shapes. It's always bothered me when people make realistic redesigns of Pokémon where the bone structure has been totally changed to that of a different animal, like that famous realistic Scyther that looks like a dinosaur rather than a bug.

Unrelated, it seems Nintendo's doing a lot of franchise - takeovers? crossovers? - lately. Pokkén Tournament, Hyrule Warriors, Pokémon Conquest...I dunno, does anyone know what's up with this? ...And Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem. Maybe it's just a strategy to try to expand their user base without alienating existing fans. Also, it's the responsibility of a platform maker to make sure there are a lot of different types of games available so that the platform appeals to a wide audience. With so little third-party support these days, Nintendo has to do most of the heavy lifting itself.

Yes, how dare the mascot of a series continue being its mascot? Being a mascot=/=being a playable character. Pikachu can still be in the game, but why does it need to be playable?

Why not?

Because I always play as Pikachu.

So you're annoyed that the development teams of various Pokémon games include the Pokémon series mascot as a playable character because you're unable to stop yourself from picking said mascot?

No, what he's saying is that Pikachu is always given a playable spot, when there are over 700 other types of Pokemon waiting in the wings. Obviously Pikachu is the most marketed Pokemon so he'll always get the spotlight, but I can sympathize with feeling that the franchise doesn't embrace it's diversity.

You specifically said you always play as Pikachu. What else was I supposed to take from that? If you don't like Pikachu, that's fine. You don't have to pick him. Nobody's forcing you to pick him. But it's a little dumb to complain that the face of a series is playable in every game in that series. Especially if you barely know anything about this particular game aside from a tiny handful of 'Mons who are going to be on the roster. It sounded to me like you were just looking for arbitrary crap to get annoyed over.

It may be the main face of the series to market it and make people notice it, but technically it's not the "hero" or "star" of it either. I know the last thing I want is anyone referring to Pikachu itself as "Pokemon". Unrelated, it seems Nintendo's doing a lot of franchise - takeovers? crossovers? - lately. Pokkén Tournament, Hyrule Warriors, Pokémon Conquest...I dunno, does anyone know what's up with this? Is this what they meant when they said that they'd try to get along with third parties better?

Are you head of the Pikachu fan club? Did I somehow offend you with my opinion? I'd like some other Pokemon to get some attention every now and then, is that so wrong? Machamp and Suicune are playable, which is awesome. Nintendo has a habit of using their most popular Pokemon in the spinoffs and it's a little annoying. Yeah, we're getting Lucario and Gardevoir. Is it so farfetch'd (lol) that I want Nintendo to show some love to more unique Pokemon? Imagine a playable Pinsir, or Porygon-Z, or Ledian, or Tropius. Wouldn't that be more fun than another Pikachu and Lucario which we've seen in dozens of games already?

Porygon (any of them) would a be a badass choice.

It'd be a pretty terrible business decision to exclude the most popular ones, though. It's awesome to see Machamp in there, and I really hope there's more less popular Pokémon, but doing that at the expense of popular ones like Pikachu and Lucario would just be asking for the game to flop. I'm fully expecting Charizard and Greninja to be in it for the same reason.

True, but it's a Pokemon fighting game. Pokemon's made a name for itself already without having to rely on people recognizing the most popular characters. I mean, I know they're going to throw in Greninja and Mewtwo. I just wish they didn't.
Remember how excited we all were when Ivysaur was playable in Brawl? It was so unexpected. I love surprises like that.

I would like to offer that the mascots are going to happen, but that does not necessarily mean that the less known Pokemon are being ousted in the mascots' favor. It does happen in a lot of games, but for Pokkén Tournament, we're clearly getting more than just the mascots. How many big name Pokémon do you think there really are? Are there 43? Because that's how many playable characters were in Tekken 6. I'd definitely love to see a roster on par with Smash Bros. 4, and something tells me we can expect that scale, so while the mascots are going to come, as they do, they won't be the only Pokémon there, not by a long shot.
