This popped into my head recently, and I was wondering if any of you remember a "secret" Nintendo community from about 10 years ago called The Luminoth Temple.
It was actually an official Nintendo community, and membership was age-restricted and invite-only. NoA never mentioned it publicly, and its rules included "you do not talk about Luminoth Temple" and "what happens in the Luminoth Temple stays in the Luminoth Temple." I was a member, and I don't remember too much about it, but frankly, I don't recall any particular reason why it was a secret. I don't think I ever participated in it, either. I just lurked.
The only particular thing I remember was that they once posted what was supposed to be an exclusive interview with some of the staff at Retro Studios, and it immediately got leaked to the public.
Looking back on it, it was kind of an odd thing, but I guess it was just viral marketing (which was trendy at the time) for Metroid Prime 2.
There's a little bit of information about it at the Wikitroid. It seems it also led to a fan community called the Chozo Sanctuary, which is actually still active and includes an incomplete archive of posts from the Luminoth Temple here.
