It was announced that Masaya Nakamura, the founder of Namco, passed away on January 22 at the age of 91. Jeremy Parish has written a nice piece about him on the Retronauts blog. Namco definitely helped define my earliest gaming experiences, especially in the arcade. Pac-Man (and just about anything with "Pac-Man" in the title), Dig Dug and Galaga were among my favorites. Even now, when I think of classic arcade games, Namco games are some of the first to come to mind. Rest in peace, Mr. Nakamura.

I've heard of the founding story of NAMCO, as well as Mr Nakamura himself.
I can count their games that I've played with a single hand: arcade versions of Taiko Drum Master that I can't quite count, Family Tennis on Super Famicom for some reason, Smash for Wii U, and (very briefly) an officially-approved browser port of Druaga; which means I've missed the likes of PAC-MAN, Dig Dug and Mappy. I do have a great deal of respect to them; it's just that their tastes don't match mine.
But their influence can definitely be felt. Their early games are some of the most famous ones, to the point that you just can't think about arcade gaming without thinking about them, even now.
You will be foundly remembered, Mr Nakamura.
