Let's have a general thread that's more about us as potential users (as opposed to announcements and speculation). Some of us may have said a thing or two in the announcement threads, but I think this warrants a thread of its own.
So, here are a few things that I'm curious about you guys:
- Are you going to buy a Nintendo Switch? If yes, when? If no, why? If "maybe", what criteria you are looking for?
- What games and other features do you want to see on it - both announced titles and just stuff you wish the system has?
To me, my answers to these questions are very simple. I'd just look at a list of my favourite series and add ticks and crosses. I've actually mentioned this elsewhere, but here it is as a single checklist:
(Re-releases without significant improvement do not count; if anything, those make me resent Nintendo and others for punishing loyal early adopters)
There are more stuff I didn't cover here, mainly because I don't really know if those will influence my buying decision. Spelunker looks fun, but I'm not sure if it's something I'll buy. Same for all those other SQUARE ENIX games.
Right now, my answer to "will I get Nintendo Switch" is that it's basically a yes, but I want to wait for more answers first. I'll probably wait until after E3 or even TGS; Mario Odyssey won't be there until the year's end, anyway.
Having 3-4 games I'll play in the first year seems great, but I'm actually a bit concerned about how long will it keep me entertained. I'm hoping E3 and TGS will answer some of my worries.
(Off-topic-ish rant below)
EDIT: Now that the system is out and I get to look at the under-discussed games, it appears that while Soldam 2 and Super Bomberman R fit my list based on just the description, those games lack the quality I desire.
Soldam 2 looks like some 2000s Windows game some Japanese publisher would sell for a low price, and I'm not convinced if the Reversi-inspired gameplay makes for a good puzzle game, especially in multiplayer.
Super Bomberman R's new system doesn't look good to me. I want to have bombs bounce off soft blocks, not land one on them. And just as I predicted, actual Super Bomberman music did not return. Graphics don't look much improved from the Wii version, either. I also still don't like Unity.
I'm not sure about whether I'd buy those now. Kicking those games from "yes" to "maybe".
On the other hand, now I'm a tad more interested in Zelda. I don't really like it in terms of game system, but the game itself looks like an inviting giant playground.
I'll, again, wait for E3 and maybe TGS first.

Top fav stuff; hitting two or all of these would pretty much guarantee that I get the system | |
---|---|
✓? | Fire Emblem (main series) |
Kirby (main series Hoshi no Kaabii) | |
✓ | 3D Mario |
Nice-to-have that would steer me towards saying yes (some of these are long-dead series) | |
✗ | Mario Kart |
2D Zelda | |
(Meh) | Action puzzle game (Puyo Puyo, Tetris, Puzzle League, etc.) |
(Meh) | Bomberman (better if it's related to the Super Bomberman series) |
Anything from SEGA feat. HATSUNE MIKU Project (come on, SEGA...) | |
Some decent, beginner-friendly music game based on game music (Band Brothers is not cutting it) | |
F-ZERO (no seriously) | |
Kirby (spinoff) | |
✓? | Fire Emblem (spinoff or crossover) |
(ARMS?) | New game or sequels to one-shots I don't know if I'll like |
Revival of dead series I used to like (Parodius, Power Stone, Crazy Taxi, Metal Slug, maybe Contra too) | |
Smash, but only if notable improvement is seen; I won't get a direct Smash Wii U port |

My checklist smells kind of like Wii U, which I can really say I like just because of Super Mario 3D World, Puyo Puyo Tetris and Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE. Smash has started to lose its magic to me after so long, and Super Mario Maker plain didn't work when my biggest memory of it is the painful process of getting costumes, which I didn't finish to this day. 3D Zelda didn't appeal to me; and I bought Star Fox and found it too difficult... Point is, my preference range is very narrow, and it's hard for a platform to really satisfy me. Unless when said platform is Nintendo 3DS.
