So I've decided to undertake a massive musical project and I need some input from you guys. So here's the situation: I'm going to be recording the entire history of video games in song. I need influential releases, major events in gaming history, and so on. The big thing here is that, even if the event doesn't necessarily involve a game, I'd like to hear some input on a game from the period of that event which is immediately relevant to that event (so for example, the Gaming Crash of '83 would need a game from that time period with a direct link to the Crash...so, y'know, E.T.)
Two things to remember: This is going back to Pong-era, so feel free to go a bit prehistoric on me; and while gaming's become a huge thing lately, I'm not going to be providing equal opportunity for games of all eras, so I'm not going to spam this project with every big release of the past 10 years. Super Mario Galaxy was a big release but Wii Sports was more historic - it represented a shift in focus to casual gamers that continues to resonate even today despite ultimately being a bland sports simulator.
I'll be sticking around in this thread so that, if you need some help in clarifying what sort of events I'm looking for, I can provide some information when needed, but I will not be joining the discussion at large. My input is only to clarify if you guys get in a snit about what I mean by historically relevant. So: Here's the base of what I'm looking for (list subject to update as discussion unfolds.)

- Influential releases - You can probably guess which games I'm talking about here. What influence did it have on the development of the gaming industry? Mortal Kombat was responsible for the ESRB, Donkey Kong Country was a huge step forward in graphical development, Final Fantasy defined a major genre, Halo introduced a new and important console, Sonic the Hedgehog started a major industry relationship...things like that.
- Industry shakeups - Remember when Microsoft bought Rareware? How about when Sega stopped making hardware? Things like that.
- Developer changes - When a new developer comes on the scene and makes something big, or when a well-known developer stops making games or...ahem...stops. From the first games out of Shigeru Miyamoto and Notch to the deaths of Satoru Iwata and Gunpei Yokoi, these are worth at least a quick jingle.
