As of 10 December, 10 million Nintendo Switch units were sold.
I don't know what to make of this figure. It's a respectable figure, and it's only slightly worse than the PS4, which also reached 10 million in roughly 9 months. But it's also the result after Nintendo released some of their best-sellers (Zelda, Mario Kart, Splatoon, Mario) on it, and if they're going to end the 3DS, the Switch is supposed to match that system's 70m at the end of its cycle (which, incidentally, is also the PS4's sales-to-date), not Wii U's 13.5m.
Nintendo raised their Switch sales expectation at March 2018 from 10m (which makes no sense now) to 14m. I'm slightly skeptical.
But it's still good news regardless, at least for now.

Pretty impressive for a system that launched in March and doesn't even have a full holiday shopping season under its belt. Also impressive that Nintendo has done a decent job trying to keep up with demand.
Unlike the Wii U, where Nintendo just kinda threw it out there and expected it to sell, Nintendo has been very calculated with the Switch (as they were with the original Wii), and it's paying off.
It'll be interesting to see if the momentum keeps up after the new year.
With that, and the Switch beating the PS2's first year record in Japan, I think it's safe to say that the Switch is an out and out success. Any idea of failure left over from the Wii U era should be dispelled.

Also, "Console gaming is dead!"
I do wonder how will this momentum go on. Nintendo Switch is fortunate enough to come out at a time when there isn't much from competitors (with them pushing half-upgrades rather than completely new systems), and at a time when there was something of a draught of games (especially Nintendo games). The last year also had games like BotW and Odyssey, and this year probably won't have anything this big.
And I wouldn't trust third party publishers, at any rate. They're not obliged to stick to a system, and they are shown to come and go really easily.
Things are looking really good, and I am optimistic, but in a cautious way.
"Sonic Mania from SEGA" Even Nintendo threw Sonic Forces behind.
Smash Bros Ultimate has sold 13.81 million and is supposedly the best selling fighting game of all time now. 1-2 Switch has nearly sold 2.97 million, Mario Tennis Aces has sold 2.64 million and ARMS and XC2 aren't even on the list anymore.
For more good news, here's some game sales numbers:
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: 22.96 million Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: 17.68 million Super Mario Odyssey: 16.59 million Breath Of The Wild: 16.34 million Pokémon Sword/Shield: 16.06 million Pokémon Let’s Go: 11.76 million Splatoon 2: 9.81 million Super Mario Party 2: 9.12 million New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe: 5.85 million Luigi’s Mansion 3: 5.37 million Super Mario Maker 2: 5.04 million Links Awakening: 4.19 million Fire Emblem Three Houses: 2.58 million Ring Fit Adventure 2.17 million copies Astral Chain 1.03 million copies Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 1.02 million copies
Some nice numbers for games that came out last year, it's great to see Astral Chain do well.
It's that time again! What Nintendo hardware has the Switch 68.30 million outsold now . . . ?
. . . It's the NES's 61.91 million!
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - 28.99 million Animal Crossing: New Horizons - 26.04 million Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - 21.10 million The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - 19.74 million Pokémon Sword and Shield - 19.02 million Super Mario Odyssey - 18.99 million Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! / Let's Go, Eevee! - 12.49 million Super Mario Party - 12.10 million Splatoon 2 - 11.27 million New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe - 8.32 million

Nester the Lark: The Japanese voice actor for Adol (of the Ys series), Yuji Kaji, will be making an appearance at Konami's TGS presentation to "represent the fans." In the past, Konami has showcased Falcom's games at TGS. I wonder if there will be more to it...

Nester the Lark: I'm reluctant to do spoiler discussions because if people are playing the game, they wouldn't want spoilers, and if they're not playing the game, they wouldn't be interested anyway.

nocturnal YL: I'm… not sure if I'll read your spoiler discussions. I don't think I'll get the chance to play this, but at the same time, I'm not entirely sure I won't, either.

nocturnal YL: I have yet another pile of games waiting to be played. Due to various circumstances (I'm busy at work, this month's weekends are filled with family events, and Project DIVA Mega Mix just got new DLC), I'm not able to play them yet.

nocturnal YL: I'm currently at 34 Switch games played. I've been thinking about my Switch review videos and I'll make another at 36 or 40 games. Leaning towards 36.

Nester the Lark: I'm not British, but there's never not been a Queen of England during my lifetime (and indeed, most of a lifetime before that), so even though I knew it had to happen eventually, it still feels a little weird.

Nester the Lark: The English lip sync in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 has spoiled me. I was hoping Fire Emblem: Engage would have it, too, but comparing the English and Japanese trailers, it doesn't seem to be the case.

Nester the Lark: Wondering if I should create a thread for Fire Emblem: Engage, or just talk about it in the general Fire Emblem thread...

Nester the Lark: Nintendo has had a good rhythm with their releases. When I'm tired of Xenoblade, they release a new Fire Emblem. When I'm tired of Fire Emblem, they release a new Xenoblade. When I'm tired of both, they release a new Zelda.

nocturnal YL: Super Mario Galaxy 2 is a relatively new game in terms of TAS, so it usually doesn't look as impressive as Super Mario 64. But sometimes we get stuff like this: Cosmic Cove Green Star 1 in 20.58s
