Nintendo released their financial results. Their financial year ends on 31 March, so the one released is a big, whole-year report.
I'm not all that interested in financial reports (and you can find other interpretations online), but here are a few of my observations:
Here's the number of hardware and software units sold for all systems. Just for fun, I've compiled the games-per-system ratio for each system:
(At 31 March 2018) (sales numbers in millions)
(At 31 December 2017) (sales numbers in millions)
Surprisingly, on average, Wii did not end up being that system everyone bought and immediately forgot.

I'm not all that interested in financial reports (and you can find other interpretations online), but here are a few of my observations:
- They made a better profit than last year, with a net profit after tax of 140 billion yen.
- Nintendo still keeps a lot of cash, making up 45% of their total assets.
- Japanese taste is very different from overseas. Splatoon 2 is the best-selling game in Japan, overshadowing Super Mario Odyssey.
- Kirby Star Allies sold 500 thousand copies in Japan in just half a month. Elsewhere, it sold 750 thousand, again in just half a month.
- There are currently more than 100 games to pick from on Switch.

Related news:
- Nintendo Swtich has been hacked. An oversight in Tegra X1 makes it possible for it to boot into an arbitrary OS, and since this happens in the chip's bootup sequence (which is burned into read-only memory), there is no way to patch this issue.
- Fire Emblem Warriors sold a million copies worldwide, according to KOEI TECMO GAMES. How did they get the number of overseas sales (where it's published by Nintendo) remains a mystery, seeing that Nintendo didn't announce Pokkén Tournament DX's figure in Japan because it's handled by The Pokémon Company there.
- Oh, and there are big changes in management. Shinya Takahashi (EPD General Manager → Senior Managing Executive Officer) and Yoshiaki Koizumi (EPD Deputy General Manager → Executive Officer) now have executive-sounding titles, which I actually don't feel good about. Does this mean they'll be removed from a more active role in the company?
- Kimishima is retiring, with Shuntaro Furukawa taking over. So I guess what they said about Kimishima taking the job temporarily is true.
- NOE President Shibata is also stepping down.
