I love the history/references of Spirit Battles but there are some that I do not know/understand. SSBWiki has most of them figured out of the character inspirations, but any idea as what the minion characters are referencing with these Spirit Battles?:
0027 Baby Peach - Minion: Mario (Probably Mario himself or Baby Mario?)
0522 Zoroark - Minion: Lucario (fake legendary dogs from the Pokemon/Zoroark movie?)
1087 Nico Fire - Minion: Fox, Sonic (Slot Cars? I feel like these might be specific to maybe special slot cars?)
1148 Satoru - Minion: Mewtwo, Ridley, Bowser
1216 Dr. Lobe - Minion: Kirby
1221 Satoru Amatsubo - Minion: Mega Man
1248 Ando Kensaku - Minion: Mr. Game & Watch
1254 Toy Poodle - Ally: Duck Hunt
1271 Allen - Minion: King K. Rool, Ridley

Hi Gilder.  Nice thread. Nico Flare - Fox, SonicI get a similar impression as you; Sonic is associated with speed. Not sure about Fox. Nico Flare has a rival called Iceman but the only similarities I gather are Fox/their hair being a similar colour and one of them wearing blue like Sonic. New DLC, new spirits! I've figured out most of them, but any Persona fans know of the character/series reference with Ridley in Igor's Spirit Battle?

Most people seem to agree that the Ridley's are more meant to represent evil as a concept, than any particular persona.

Hero has arrived! And with it more Spirits. Overall they are straight forward, but my knowledge for Dragon Quest is limited when looking at the Hero's Comrades spirit battle.
1328 Hero's Comrades
I believe I have figured out these fighters to the character reference:
Zelda - Serena
Robin - Veronica
King Dedede - Rab
Ike - Hendrik
However that leaves Link, Shiek and Zero Suit Samus with Jade, Erik and Sylvando to sort out. Anybody have any idea or knowledge on which fighter represents which character?

Since I haven’t played SSBU yet (blasphemous, I know,) I only have YouTube to go on for this existing, but in an episode of the Completionist Jirard mentioned that there’s a spirit battle with Ness’ father, played by an invisible Snake, since you never see Ness’ father. I’ll further add that Snake bears more than a passing resemblance to Flint (Lucas’ father) and that Snake quite notably communicates with characters in Metal Gear games via codec, not dissimilar to Ness’ father communicating with Ness exclusively (in-game) via telephone.

Huh, I hadn't made the CODEC/Telephone connection. The Spirit is even represented as a telephone, which in my book makes it the funniest spirit by far.

New Spirit event with new spirits from DAEMON X MACHINA are this weekend! I must admit that I know nothing about the game (Played the demo for about an hour and didn't care for it). But hopefully someone knows the references within the spirit battles:
1348 Kloster (Grief) - Dark Samus, Samus (x2)
1349 Bullet Walker (Brigadier General) - R.O.B. (x3) with green, red and blue alts
1350 High Line (Guns Empress) - Ridley
I'm assuming the minions are actually the mechs themselves, but what are the mechs?

The small fighters like Zamus and Ganondorf represent the pilots, while the regular sized fighters represent the mechs themselves.
