I love the history/references of Spirit Battles but there are some that I do not know/understand. SSBWiki has most of them figured out of the character inspirations, but any idea as what the minion characters are referencing with these Spirit Battles?:
0027 Baby Peach - Minion: Mario (Probably Mario himself or Baby Mario?) 0522 Zoroark - Minion: Lucario (fake legendary dogs from the Pokemon/Zoroark movie?) 1087 Nico Fire - Minion: Fox, Sonic (Slot Cars? I feel like these might be specific to maybe special slot cars?) 1148 Satoru - Minion: Mewtwo, Ridley, Bowser 1216 Dr. Lobe - Minion: Kirby 1221 Satoru Amatsubo - Minion: Mega Man 1248 Ando Kensaku - Minion: Mr. Game & Watch 1254 Toy Poodle - Ally: Duck Hunt 1271 Allen - Minion: King K. Rool, Ridley

Hi Gilder. Nice thread.
Nico Flare - Fox, Sonic
I get a similar impression as you; Sonic is associated with speed. Not sure about Fox. Nico Flare has a rival called Iceman but the only similarities I gather are Fox/their hair being a similar colour and one of them wearing blue like Sonic.
Satoru - Minion: Mewtwo, Ridley, Bowser
Perhaps these reference monsters in general or specific ones called from the cards, with Mewtwo as the Master card.

Since I haven’t played SSBU yet (blasphemous, I know,) I only have YouTube to go on for this existing, but in an episode of the Completionist Jirard mentioned that there’s a spirit battle with Ness’ father, played by an invisible Snake, since you never see Ness’ father. I’ll further add that Snake bears more than a passing resemblance to Flint (Lucas’ father) and that Snake quite notably communicates with characters in Metal Gear games via codec, not dissimilar to Ness’ father communicating with Ness exclusively (in-game) via telephone.
New Spirit event with new spirits from DAEMON X MACHINA are this weekend! I must admit that I know nothing about the game (Played the demo for about an hour and didn't care for it). But hopefully someone knows the references within the spirit battles:
1348 Kloster (Grief) - Dark Samus, Samus (x2) 1349 Bullet Walker (Brigadier General) - R.O.B. (x3) with green, red and blue alts 1350 High Line (Guns Empress) - Ridley
I'm assuming the minions are actually the mechs themselves, but what are the mechs?
Nester the Lark: Hello, NinDB world! Post your shouts here! (But be careful not to wake the neighbors. )

nocturnal YL: Guys, guys! I can't believe what I found in Zelda 1! The game features an Elimination Mode that for some reason not many talked about! I wonder if it's fun? (Don't actually try it.)

nocturnal YL: Hey, I can edit shoutbox posts! This is already better than Twitter!

Nester the Lark: It seems like Cadence of Hyrule should be more popular than it is. Are people put off by the rhythm aspect? Or the randomly-generated maps?
Jul 24, 2020 14:01:59 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: ↑ Might warrant its own thread, but I think mixing rhythm and other genres usually resuls in gameplay too difficult for many. I can't handle it well either, judging from my scores in Dedede's Drum Dash.
Jul 24, 2020 22:46:56 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: ↑ For me personally, it simply hasn't been considered. It's a download-only game (until now) from a series I'm unfamiliar with and didn't feel like trying out.

Nester the Lark: Ironically, I did create a thread for Cadence of Hyrule, but then deleted it thinking there wouldn't be any discussion on it. Maybe I'll go ahead and make a new one.

Shrikeswind: Something to bear in mind about the shoutbox if you’re not already aware: It doesn’t show up on the mobile version of the forums. This shouldn’t be a major problem, but it can make it difficult to get into discussions for mobile visitors.
Jul 26, 2020 1:40:18 GMT -5
Shrikeswind: Also the more obvious character limit issues, and the format not really being conducive to longer-term discussion. It’s useful but limited; threads definitely still have their place.

Shrikeswind: (Honestly, Proboards mobile is pretty bad in general, but...)

Nester the Lark: Not sure if this works on all devices, but you can force the desktop version of the forum by scrolling all the way to the bottom and clicking the "Desktop" link at the lower right.

Shrikeswind: I’m aware. I’m typing this from my phone. I’m just pointing out that, for people who aren’t aware or who may be casually checking in on their phone, the shoutbox won’t be visible on

Shrikeswind: Is there a Discord for NinDB, by the way? It’s very popular with them there young’ns these days, so it might help activity.
Jul 26, 2020 22:07:47 GMT -5
Nester the Lark: There is no NinDB Discord. There was a brief discussion of it a few years ago, but nothing ultimately came of it. I rarely use Discord, myself.
Jul 27, 2020 8:58:28 GMT -5
Shrikeswind: Hm. Seems like it might be a good idea if activity picks up. Not to be a pessimist but I do have my doubts that'll happen though.

Shrikeswind: Okay not a Nintendo topic but I kinda need to talk about this because I just learned it and it's a thing so bleh.

Shrikeswind: You remember Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame, right? So apparently, 5 year old me was incapable of discerning male and female in non-humans, because *apparently* there's a female gargoyle, and the goat's a boy.
