Shouldn't this have its own thread by now? There is currently a week-long Twitter poll to see which of four new ship designs people like best (with the caveat that these are just proposals, and there are no guarantees they will make it into the game). You can read about the extra ships here.I ended up voting for the R-9uso800 APRIL FOOLS because I liked that it has a charge shot that apparently shows staff credits. Also, it's a fun reference to Irem's April Fools' jokes. I do like all the designs, tho.

R-Type Final 2 has reached the $1 million stretch goal, so it will now get a re-creation of one of the stages from R-Type Leo.
Also, they released a video showing the launch sequence for the Blue Symphonies ship. This is strange, not just because it came in last in the poll, but because they also note that it doesn't mean the ship will actually make it into the game.

The second crowdfunding campaign is officially over, finishing with over 10,000 backers and less than US$6,000 shy of the next stretch goal. A shame it didn't quite get there, but it was just a recreation of a stage from R-Type II, and since we already have R-Type Dimensions, it doesn't seem as interesting.

Here's the latest development update. I find it interesting that the most voted-for stage to be remade from R-Type III was stage 4. It's a clever stage, yes, but is almost kaizo in its design, often trolling the player. It also has an extremely difficult end boss, so the whole thing is kind of a drag to play through. Then again, I guess trolling the player is kind of a thing in R-Type...

February Development Update. Not much to talk about except for a look at the customization screen and the results of the R-Type Leo stage poll. Sounds like there should be a new trailer soon, though.

June development update.Again, not much to talk about. It's interesting that you can customize your pilot when you can't even see them in the game, but still cool, I guess. Next update is scheduled for July, which probably means around October.

Perhaps this is some reassurance that the Switch version won't just be an afterthought.

Not a full update, but here's some footage of the ship customization, as well as literally less than five seconds of gameplay.

In news that should surprise absolutely no one, R-Type Final 2 is not coming out this year, but according to Gematsu, is now scheduled for Spring 2021. Also, there will be a live presentation of the game on September 25. Next update is scheduled for July, which probably means around October. Well, I was close.

Here is the new trailer.
It shows new things, but only in brief glimpses, so I don't feel like I'm able to really take it in. I kinda wish these trailers had a little more substance to them.

Looks like NIS America will be publishing the game in the West.

A third round of crowd funding just finished, and it reached another stretch goal: a recreation of a stage from R-Type II as a bonus stage.
Also, it seems that they're planning DLC after release:

According to Gematsu, R-Type Final II is scheduled for an April 29 release in Japan. NISA has not announced a Western release date yet (other than Spring 2021), but I bet they'll say something in the near future.
