I know I've done this roughly every few months, but I've been thinking about giving Nintendo Database a flashier look - something a little shinier and more colourful around the edges. On the whole it will remain untouched, but I want to snazz up the menu and the title a bit.
Does anyone have any ideas? Or better still... anyone know of any websites with particularly snazzy layouts that I can get inspiration from?
Another thing I'd like to add would be links on the main page to "important" parts of the site - such as the trophy guide, dolphin guide, and all that other stuff that could be missed. I briefly knocked up the two buttons you see on the main page (for the forums and trophy guide) as a stopgap - but some ideas there would also be quite useful
Oh, and Almighty Narf, I came across your site the day before you mentioned it Very swish. In fact it was one reason I thought about the design of NinDB.
That and all those swanky Zelda websites with more shine than content

I'm also currently reworking The Animal Forest to be ready for Animal Crossing DS and the long awaited Animal Crossing (Europe). I'm not showing anyone it yet, but if your still working on NDB in a few weeks from now, I guess you'll be able to use it for inspiration too.

I'm think, that with the "new design", you should have more concepts like FAQs, lots of screenshots, something like that. Perhaps you should change it to a lighter look with the DS release.
Like I said, this will be a purely superficial design change - the content will remain as it is (and so the background colour must also stay)
But as it stands NinDB's layout has some minor changes between systems, and I thought I could go for a sharper look, and maybe customise the layout of each individual system even further.
A bit like I started doing a while back before I gave up.
Right, I've started playing with CSS, and wondering how I can work it into NinDB. At the same time I'm also learning how to use Dreamweaver, as that will be quite useful for future employment at something vaguely interesting.
Looks like the few pages I've worked on are now massively CSS efficient. Thanks to a few tips I picked up somewhere.
ProTip: Find an excellent site that you know is CSS and HTML efficient, and View >> Source - and don't let on that the site in question is the one by the person who posted previously...
The redesign is going well, but I have a quick question for anyone who might know (especially Deezer and Narf, as you have Gamespy-hosted sites):
Can I embed the CSS link required on each page in a Side Server Include, or will that cause problems in the end? Is it better to have the link separately on each page?
I only ask 'cause I can't easily test it at the moment
nocturnal YL: I took a look at my past Switch games and found that more than 40% of the games I played contain some kind of fishing.

nocturnal YL: A bit late, but I started Aiyoku no Eustia. I have nothing to say about the story yet because the demo lasted 6 hours and I haven't got past that. There's no save data transfer feature, fast-forwarding takes a while, and I stopped to read at some points.

nocturnal YL: It has the best file management feature I've seen. 60 normal save slots, 6 autosaves, and 12 more slots automatically saved at decision points. And the save data can be moved, deleted and given comments. It's the most flexible I've seen on console.

Nester the Lark: I think I've gotten a better handle on the combat in Ys X, but I still don't think it feels quite as good as in Ys VIII and IX.

nocturnal YL: Interesting; that's the opposite of what I think. Which part are you in now, by the way?

Nester the Lark: I'm just at the beginning of chapter 7. I've seen very divided opinions on the combat among Ys fans. I don't dislike it, but maybe I'm just used to Ys games having faster combat.

nocturnal YL: Aiyoku no Eustia is quite something. I thought I've somewhat hardened myself having gone through dark stories like Fire Emblem (Jugdral, Hoshido/Nohr, Fódlan) and Surge Concerto, but I'm still stunned. (Still doesn't beat real life, though.)

nocturnal YL: Aiyoku no Eustia has branched endings, and I've reached two. I'm surprised to see three familiar names in the credits: Ceui (OP vocal in Atelier Lydie & Suelle), Yoshino Nanjo (voice of Kiria in TMS♯FE), Yuu Asakawa (Megurine Luka's voice provider).

nocturnal YL: It'll be quite a while until I'm done with this game. Each individual arc takes at least 6 hours, and there are extra stories. I recall reading somewhere that this game takes 60 hours to finish.

Nester the Lark: Quick update: I'm starting chapter 9 in Ys X. Overall, I've been enjoying the game quite a bit.

Nester the Lark: Just finished Ys X. I'll write up my thoughts when I get a chance.

Nester the Lark: Looking back over my previous Ys rankings, it's funny how most of the numbered entries are ranked in descending order: VI > Seven > VIII > IX. So, does Ys X buck the trend?? 🤔

nocturnal YL: Looking forward to your thoughts!

nocturnal YL: I'm back home! It's been a pretty fun trip. Being able to see falling leaves on a mountain path full of trees in person made the trip worth taking.

nocturnal YL: At the final part of Aiyoku no Eustia. It'll probably still take me a good while as there are some extras to go through. The story is supposed to be dark and dissatisfying; I wonder if I'll dislike it like with the story of Void Terrarium 2?
