OK, I have never played the 2 Earthbound / Mother games before, and up until recently, all I knew about them was that the Nes character in SSBM belonged to this franchise (and quite frankly I found the kid to be annoying)...
But, I have done some research and now undertsand that the Mother games were in fact RPGs with a difference - they seem quite quircky and cool.
Who here has played either of these 2 games? Will gamers outside of Japan ever get the Mother 1&2 GBA cart that was released in Japan?
Let's discuss, if we so wish...

I've played Earthbound (Mother 2) and it's definently one of my favorite RPGs. I played a little bit of EarthBound 0... but I really didn't think it was as good.

I have Earthbound (Mother 2), and it is a fun title. Yes it is quirky and very different, and that's probably why I like it so much as opposed to most other RPGs.
At this point it looks rather unlikely that Mother 1+2 will be released outside of Japan. I feel that this is partially because Nintendo of America and Europe would have to reconcile the fact that Mother 1 was never released. Even though a full English translation was created (and many people hold unreleased copies in the U.S.), NOA has more or less denied the games existance. Then there's the fact that NOA isn't known for releasing previously Japan-exclusive games. However, if Mother 3 gets released (a game which I suspect has a much greater possibility of a U.S. release), it could become more likely.

My sister has circumvented that by importing Mother 1+2 despite not speaking Japanese at all. But then she's played the ROMs to death (remember, in Europe neither Mother nor Earthbound were released!) It might be more likely for Mother 1+2 to be released when Mother 3 is announced, but I just suspect NoA will rename it Earthbound 2 and be done with it. Maybe in Europe... maybe...

I wonder why they call it "Mother" in Japan.... I'm probably wrong, but I always thought it was because of "Mother Earth(Bound)." Which one is it the you can get homesick? Maybe it's just because Ninten/Ness are momma's boys. I love my momma. I pity the foo who don't!

I'd assume it was the Mother Earth one, as the O in Mother's (and Mother 2's) title is replaced with a picture of the Earth. One of the better RPG titles in my opinion

I was thinking about EarthBound 64, and maybe, the plot would be totally different and evolve Ness and friends. The end of EarthBound did point to a sequel, and I'd like to see Ninten (hero of Mother 1) and Ness meet up. And yes, the "EarthBound Zero" prototype has been confirmed. Go www.lostlevels.org. I hope Mother 1&2 (probably could be "EarthBound Deluxe"in the other parts of the world "Includes EarhBound Zero, previously unseen to the US!") and Mother 3 reach US and Europe.

Nintendo doesn't want to release the Mother series....they hate us.
