I just got it yesterday. Anyone else? It's great! I played for about 4 hours last night with my mom and sister. Clapping starts to hurt, so I had to change to hitting the side of the bongo. =( I like most the songs, except there's two songs the are combinations of a few children's songs, like Row,Row Your Boat, and The Itsy, Bitsy Spider. While one is sorta cool, two seemed like to many. And the DK Rap isn't complete. It's just 3/5ths of the song. =( We Will Rock You is one of my favorites to play so far.

Donkey Konga doesn't appeal much to me....
Now, unless if you can make it play music of your choice, I'd try it....

How much did they mess with the game in order to release it in the West? Did they get rid of all the Japanese popular music? How many pieces of Western popular music are there? Are there any Beatles songs?

How much did they mess with the game in order to release it in the West? Did they get rid of all the Japanese popular music? How many pieces of Western popular music are there? Are there any Beatles songs? The only songs from the original they kept were Nintendo themed ones. (DK Rap, Super Mario Bros., Zelda, Pokemon, Kirby) I don't think there's any Beatles songs, but I'm not to good at remembering who made songs. I don't listen to a lot of non-Nintendo music. So I'm not quite sure what "popular western music" is. But I think you can find lists of all the songs at GameFAQs. If you don't feel like going there here's all the songs I can remember: Donkey Konga DK Rap Zelda Theme Super Mario Theme Pokemon Theme Kirby:Right Back at Ya Theme Diddy's Dittys Campfire Melodies Bingo We Will Rock You Wild Thing Rock Lobster Whip It Louie Louie Can't Hurry Love I Think I Love You Sing, Sing, Sing On The Road Again Stupid Cupid Busy Child Like Wow Oye ComaVa The Impression That I get Dancing In The Street That's 24 out of 33. I must go play more. Bye!

And remember that the European and American releases also have quite big differences in their music lists.
From what I've heard though, the European version has been localised VERY well. A lot less pop than I thought, and a lot more rock and punky stuff.

Heh.
Our popular music today sucks. (In America, at least).
I blame MTV.

I swear I will make a comment concerning Donkey Konga at the end of this post: just let me get what's below off my chest. Our popular music today sucks. (In America, at least). I blame MTV. I agree with you, even though I can name several rockers that have emerged in the Western rock scene in the last five years that are actually good (The White Stripes, or the Strokes, for example. I don't care if they're going mainstream, though it leads to the existance of horrible copycat bands, like Jet). The main flaws of modern popular Western music is its abundance of over-fabricated pop music that dares calls itself pop, and horrible hip-hop and rock artists that put all the good artists in those genres to shame. And as Jack Black assures us in "School Of Rock", MTV is to blame for classic rock 'n' roll artists and the good ones that still exist not being given enough credit these days. Most people would agree that the Beatles are the greatest popular Western music group of all time, and it would be a shame if there weren't any songs by them in any version of the game. But if what Fryguy said is true, then its still likely that there are Beatles songs in the European version. If that is true and I ever buy Donkey Konga, I may buy the PAL version. PAL discs actually run faster on American GameCubes.

Not too sure about Kylie... and is that Back For Good by Take That?!
"Don't stop me NOW! I'm having such a good time, I'm having a ball!" Marvellous.

I didn't think I would like this type of game, but my brother just bought it yesterday, and now I'm not getting any of my school work done. It's too much fun ;D

I've had it for about a week now. It's a lot of fun once you get a few people playing, and I imagine that'll be even more fun once I get some more DK Bongos. The Impression That I Get is fun to play, and Super Smash Bros. Melee Theme is near impossible for me in Chimp mode. I kinda wish they'd left the Pokémon and Kirby themes in the European version, though. I was kind of disappointed that most of the Nintendo-themed songs were ripped directly from the soundtrack of SSBM, though. The Super Mario Bros. remix was awesome, however.

I got it yesterday (European version), and I've racked up gold on every song on easy mode except 'Don't Stop Me Now' and '99 Red Balloons'... They're pigging difficult.
Lots of cameos in it though. I wish I had my TV Card.

I noticed a few cameos in the different sound sets you can buy. So far I only have the Kirby one, though. Annoying that they have a Kirby sound set, yet not one Kirby song.

The sound sets I've seen that are cameos are NES, Kirby, Zelda, and Mario. Some of the others may also have sounds 'borrowed' from other games. I have NES, Kirby and Mario at the moment. Kirby is annoying.
