I'm not kidding you. A new Mario Baseball game has been announced (presumably by Camelot) and there's some screenshots floating about too. It looks like... a baseball game. But with Mario characters.
However, if Mario Power Tennis and Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour are anything to go by, this will be one of the finer baseball games on the market... even if it does end up with Petey Piranha in it... again.

No!
No! No! No!
There should be less Mario sports games. Not more. Damn'it, I want more Golden Sun games.

The only good thing I can see about it is that it may mean more characters than other sports game gets (since Baseball requires more players than Golf or Tennis), which means we may get to some new and old characters making appearances.
Gameplay-wise, I dunno what Nintendo has planned to offer. But there's no doubt that after a wave of hard hitters like Double Dash, Toadstool Tour, and Power Tennis... that this should be good.
EDIT: Looks like it's being made by Namco. Wowzers!

Woah, a baseball game!? That's... umm... well, I don't know. It might turn out pretty good...
The game is probably for the GBA, right?

It might end up with a GBA iteration, but this is for the Gamecube.
As for Namco developing it, that's pretty good. Though I'll admit I'm surprised.
There's a few more screenshots of next years GC Zelda game floating around as well. I'll try and find out what else has been uncovered.

Namo, eh? Well, I guess it's good that Nintendo is publishing more Namco games... but I still don't think Mario needs more sports games.

This Mario Baseball game looks alright, but I really want to see Mario Soccer... oh man, would that rule...
I'd buy that in an instant...
But that's not on the horizon, so this baseball game will be watched carefully for now...

How popular is baseball in Japan? If they wanted to appeal to the worlwide market, they would do better with a soccer game. However, it would sell horribly in the US.

Would't they know a good sport if they were playing it... how could somebody NOT like soccer???
What about the Fifa games? They do alright, don't they?
Anyways, it makes sense for an Italian guy to have a soccer game - Italians and soccer go hand in hand (and yes, I know it's a Japanese character).

I don't like Soccer and I'm English... that's, like, British national atheism or something. It'd be like forsaking cups of tea (oh dear, I don't drink tea either) or the queen (eek, I'm opposed to the monarchy too... this isn't going well at all)...
Err... it'd be like giving up complaining about the weather! Yeah, I do that... much better. Bloody drizzle.

What is your bloody position on bloody people bloody reinforcing bloody British stereo-types? You might be distancing yourself from British customs subconciously in order not to become a cliché.<br> I don't like soccer and I'm South American, and I have Italian and Spanish blood, so I know how you feel. With all the problems with political correctness in the US, I'm surprised the Italian-American anti-defamation league hasn't yet complained about Mario. Maybe they will take this game as a personal insult against Joe DiMaggio.
