www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=57572Sounds very interesting. We should probably wait for official confirmation on this, though. But with everything else thats been announced lately, this really doesn't sound too unlikely.

Nintendo to introduce new licensing rules for GC 01/14/05 - Friday
Today Nintendo announced a new restriction on their licensing for Gamecube. All games that will appear on the Nintendo Gamecube console must have Mario somewhere in the game as a playable character.
CEO of Midway, Brian Bobbalong, finds the new licensing rules too harsh. "We were thinking of releasing 'Mortal Kombat: ReduXation!!" on the Gamecube, but, with these new rules in place, we pulled out of Gamecube development altogether. We couldn't justify Scorpion pulling off Mario's arms and eating his liver. It's just not cricket."
Other developers have expressed their concerns as well. P.O.B. Designs, developers of the upcoming 'Super eXtreme Tetris', have found they can no longer release their game: "Unless we remove the Tetrads and replace them with Mario, contorted into different positions, there's no way we can make him a playable character. The end result would look like a fat Italian plumber orgy!"
A source close to Nintendo, Dr. Andross, has this to say in an interview with 'GC Great' magazine, "We are hoping this will help the good Nintendo brands reach all new audiences, or indeed lose our audience altogether! It's what we call the kamikaze approach to game publishing." At which point in the interview, Dr. Andross leapt onto the table and shouted, "If I go down, I'm taking you with me!!"
Any characters, publications or events mentioned above MAY not have really taken place, or indeed exist in the first place.

Thought I would bump this thread to show that the Super Punch-Out!! main character is also unlockable in the game. It says Mac on his shorts but I alway thought the main character in Super Punch-Out!! was some other guy and not Little Mac.

Maybe he's Big Mac... har har har... But no, he is supposed to be a different character. But then did you really expect EA to do their research?

This is exactly how I pictured Little Mac in 3-D! In both NES and SNES, his body was all realistic, even if he was drawn. His eyes were cartoony. He retains his cartoony eyes. I love it.

Why is this Mac in Fight Night Round 2 not the same Mac from the NES game, Punch-Out!!?

The Punch-Out!! games have different boxers leading them. Little Mac is actually the SECOND boxer in the Punch-Out!! series, and this is the third and last one.
The first one was the hero of the arcade versions of Punch-Out!! released in 1984. His face could be seen in the upper-right corner on the top screen, and he didn't look like the later boxers.
Still, I am impressed with the rendering job on the SPO (SNES version) boxer in FNR2. Looks good.

Here are some pictures of the three Punch-Out!! boxers: - First Boxer: From Punch-Out!! (Arcade, 1984) With his hiar combed from Super Punch-Out!! (Arcade, 1984) Second Boxer (Little Mac): From Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! (NES, 1987) Third Boxer: From Super Punch-Out!! (SNES, 1994)

The rendered version's expression looks pretty terrifying to me... no wonder the other boxer is cowering in fear...
