I noticed that there's a few games that share some features with SSBM (Super Smash Bros Melee), here I put them here for your reference.
(1) Kirby Super Star: "How can this early game be in SSBM style"? Well if you look more carefully, that game shares some common points with SSBM, especially for the Arena.
(2) Super Smash Bros Melee: Yeah, SSBM=SSBM.
(3) Kirby's Air Ride: The whole system is very similar to SSBM! The menu is in SSBM style; the help movie is just like the one in SSBM; the music is a littlt bit like SSBM; the pause sound; and Kirby, when not riding (City Trial), can do 5 aerial jumps.
(4) Kirby and the Amazing Mirror: I don't need to explan do I? One of the minibosses is Master Hand, the 2 hands appear as some of the bosses, "SMASH" as an ability.
Common points: They are ALL made by HAL Labs and contain Kirby. ;D
Are there any more of these? (1) and (3) are not cameos (Did HAL Labs use similar codes for the menus in the 2 Gamecube games?), and (2)'s All Stars refers to (1).

About Kirby Super Star: in that game there's also a boss called Wham Bam Rock (or at least, I think that's his name)... It's a big mask with two floating hands that attack you, and most of those hands' attacks are the same as the attacks Master Hand and Crazy Hand have in SSB:M

Kirby Air Ride and SSBM have an almost identical menu system, and the whole setup of hoards of unlockables brought on by small and large achievements alike.

You'd almost think those games came from the same creative minds! </sarcasm>

Also of note, almost every HAL game I've played has "Sound Test" as an unlockable.

Yeah, well after playing a few Kirby games, and then looking at SSBM again, I started feeling like SSBM was like a huge Kirby game with everyone else having a cameo role... HAL really made SSBM using gameplay dynamics that are not unlike elements of the Kirby series. It just so happens to have worked VERY well! ;D

HAL really made SSBM using gameplay dynamics that are not unlike elements of the Kirby series. It just so happens to have worked VERY well! ;D At first, I thought SSB/SSBM are Mario games since they took up the largest portion. Later, when I play Kirby games more often, I started to think the same as what you said. SSBM is a Kirby game with tons of cameos ;D About Kirby Super Star: in that game there's also a boss called Wham Bam Rock (or at least, I think that's his name)... Also of note, almost every HAL game I've played has "Sound Test" as an unlockable. I just bought Air Ride yesterday so I don't know if it also has the sound test as well.

It does... but you unlock each song individually. Bit daft, really.
