I'd rather not have animels. I though about it too, but they seem out of place amoungs carts and they could be slower then the carts.

Like how Samus fighting Kirby seems out of place.
Good point, SSB Brawl should have everyone fighting in like, standardized mechs. That'd make it more fun, I bet.

Aww, but don't you want some kind of Wacky Races kind of racing game? Rickety carts versus evil carts? Hmm... Wario needs a Muttley figure.
DUCK HUNT DOG! Yes!!

I thought some characters could ride animals, etc... but cartoon racing games have, in the past, given cars to certain characters. I mean I'm all for seeing Mario on Yoshi, Link on Epona, etc... but what on Earth does Fox ride? Fox rides one of those hover scooter things from Star Fox Adventures, of course! That's what I said! No-one listened! Tricky? *shivers* Red should ride a bike. YES. The only vehicle he rides in the Pokemon games IS the bike. Mario - Yoshi Red - Bike Wario - Something from WarioWare... his motorbike in WW:T? Fox - SFAdv Hover Scooter Peach - Somehow her umbrella (the talking one) ... somehow... Bowser - Koopa Klown Car! DK - Rambi (the name of the rhino, right?) Link - Epona Zelda - Floating, she uses magic to propel herself like a rocket Ganondorf - Evil Horse Samus - Gunship Kirby - Duh, warpstar Meta-knight - the Halberd? A mini-version? Not that I really care if some of them like Peach, Zelda, Ganon, Meta-knight, etc. are shaved off, but if they are in they would be like that

Fox rides one of those hover scooter things from Star Fox Adventures, of course! Let us never speak of that travesty of a minigame or entire game ever again. As for what Fox would ride...damn. I'm not sure how far I can carry this joke and what would/would not be appropriate. D: Er, anyway. I too have thought of a Nintendo Franchise Racing type deal, but I never get too far with it since I generally don't like racing games aside from Mario Kart. And I always figure that if it does happen, it'll wind up being too gimmicky for its own good. Like comparing it to other racing games like Mario Kart 64 or DS would be similar to comparing Super Mario 64 or Sunshine to a Mario Party game.

I think it would be a brilliant idea - it just needs something that separates it somewhat from Mario Kart. Perhaps if it WAS a Super Smash Racer deal, then the rules could be as follows:
It's a lap racer, but rather than complete a set number of laps, you regain health every lap. The aim is to defeat all the other racers on the field. The levels could be more "free roaming" with multiple paths, making it a cross between a lap racer and a battle mode.
Each character would have their own weak weaponry that can be powered up by collecting one or two Smash Orbs (ala. Diddy Kong Racing's power-up system). As well as that, there will be various weapons and other traps around the course.
Of course, being an SSB game, there's nothing stopping it from having other modes (mission based, straight-up racing, etc.) as well.
The style would be slightly super-deformed rather than "realistic" models of all the characters and their cars. I think that would work better. The levels would also be stylised to match.
Like I said, they would be lap based, but you'd need some areas where battles take place. So each track will be broken into "corridors" and "arenas". There will be multiple corridors leading to each arena, perhaps some loaded with special weapons or traps. Then when you reach the arenas battle ensues. A timer would prevent people from driving straight out and escaping, ensuring that battle ensues. Then when the timer runs out the exits open and the chase to the next arena ensues. I imagine there to be at least three arenas per lap.
For example...
Mario Circuit Starts on a brickwork path with Goombas and Koopa Troopas wandering around, then into the first arena - an open-plan, lava-filled castle. When you get out, it's onto the rope bridges across giant mushrooms suspended over the sea (Cheep Cheeps could leap at you) and then into the second arena, a Yoshi Valley-themed clifftop with giant, rolling egg. Then onto a rocky path that descends into caves and exit via a waterfall cave - into Princess Peach's Castle - which acts as arena 3.
And every level would be just as awesome! Maybe I should put together a design document and approach Nintendo with it. ;D
Man, I can almost TASTE myself playing it!!

I would buy that!
And Waluigi is more like Dick Dastardly than Wario will ever be.

Potential issue with Fry's SSR number 1:
If there's no incentive to complete a lap other than to regain health, then what would stop a cheeky player from finding a neat little hiding place on one of the paths to an arena and staying there while everyone else battles it out?
Solution: Perhaps if there is a timer for each corridor section AND each arena section, if you're not at an arena after the doors close then you lose health and are dropped into the middle of the arena.
Potential issue with Fry's SSR number 2:
What if it does devolve into a lap racer, with each player too far away from the others to find each other for battle?
Solution: Each arena locks until all players are inside, then the paths open after a set battle time.
Hmm.... any more?

Potential Issues with Fry's SSR #3
Snakers. The game should be able to work where power sliding isn't required to properly navigate around a track like in Mario Kart DS or F-Zero GX--because, to be honest, I've had it with those motherwizzleing snakers on those motherwizzleing plains.
My apologies. I just couldn't resist. XD
EDIT: "Motherwizzleing" doesn't work out quite as well, but it does have a certain charm. XD

What's wrong with snakers?

Potential Issues with Fry's SSR #4 Is there any point whatsoever to go faster than your opponents? Would a more durable type car always be the better option?

Solution: Well, yeah. Just like a faster character in SSB is likely to get to items sooner and get to empty arenas quicker (where items will be in abundant supply, of course).

What's wrong with snakers? Have you ever played against a snaker when you aren't capable of it yourself? It's pretty cheap--especially when they don't listen to you when you ask them to stop. I don't mind losing, even consistantly, but when a person is being that competetive, even the fun you get from a losing experience gets sapped right out.
