Franchise Icons

Right, I need input! More input!

The Nintendo Franchises section will be updated once the game pages are all done. This isn't too far into the future... I'm a good way through the GB games now, and then it's only NES (big job), Arcade (half hour, tops) and a couple of stragglers to finish that.

The new Franchise list will be laid out like the gamelists on other pages, that is, a picture on the left, title at the top, and extra information underneath. Now, I've had a few ideas for pictures, and I'd like to know what you think of them:

1. "First Game" Screenshot
A screenshot from the first game in that series. I don't like this one much, because you end up with franchises with screenshots that will turn people off (eg. Wave Race). You also end up with a ton of different screenshot sizes, and that looks messy.

2. Random Game Screenshot
A bit better this one. This is a screenshot of a game of my choice from the series. Most will be console games where possible. This is the default idea that I'm working with at the moment, but it's not my favourite.

3. Official Artwork Avatar
A 70x70 cropped picture of a piece of art from the series. I liked this idea until I found it quite difficult to find artwork for some of them.

4. SSB-style Icon
This is my favourite idea... but one I may need some help with. You know how each of the game characters in SSBM has an icon behind their health, and during the results screens? I want lots more of them... one for each series. But it will be tough as they will all have to be made individually.

If I were to choose option 4 (based on how popular it is with you guys) then would anyone be willing to help me make some icons? They will be 70x70 as well, and we will discuss them before they are made.

Otherwise, thoughts or ideas?

I like option 4 the most, and I would also be more then happy to help out.

For an example of my icon making work, just take a look at The Animal Forest's logo.

Speaking of franchises, isn't it about time Wario was considered a sperate franchise from Mario? I mean... he's appeared in less games with Mario then Donkey Kong has. And probably has more of his own games too.

The new layout is fairly unforgiving in terms of space, so I will probably be breaking down the Mario game list into subsections for his side-series. Wario will probably get his own section, as will Dr. Mario (who seems to have quite a few cameo appearances to himself).

But I'll jump that hurdle when I get to it.

What I really need right now is for some people to go through the franchise lists and suggest icon ideas for as many as possible. Some are much more obvious that others. What is the logo/icon for Bass Tsuri No.1 series, or even the Clu Clu Land series?

But it's easy enough to think of some. Here are some I made earlier!

Those all look really good. I like the flower icon for Pikmin more than the onion icon.

I dunno, I think the Onion definately says 'Pikmin' more than the flower...

I know same here with nintyboyuno.

but these icons look very good comparing to the SSB Icons.

The Clu Clu Land rupees look identical to the Zelda rupees... but there's nothing else in Clu Clu Land to use.

Avoid using the main hero of the series where possible (ie. Starfy)... I will also be scrapping that Doshin and replacing him with the strange drawing of a giant that appears throughout the game.

I like the flower... I also prefer your first Advance Wars logo to the second, if I'm being honest. Animal Crossing is excellent

I've done Fox, Mario and am working on Metroid.

Edit: Eep, I hope you've saved them, because they need to be in GIF format to preserve the colour scheme.
