Why am I not as excited about Pit as I should be?

I knew this day would come, and I would relish it. Pit is back, and in full force. Yet, for some reason, I didn't act shocked. Or react like I thought I would, all excited and childish. I just went "finally," went back to something else, and never thought back on it.

I am a huge Kid Icarus fan, and have been pushing for Pit since day one. What's happened to me? Is it his redesign? I've poured over it... He's pretty much the same, save the nicer graphics and more attention to detail. Is it the face and the hair? The spiky hair does bother me, as does the very manga/anime styled face. He looks like Sora from Kingdom Hearts. So yeah... that bothers me. And those blades! A friend asked me if those were actually in Kid Icarus, because now he really wanted to play it! It's a fantastic idea, and a great way to revamp an old character and bring back his popularity, but woah. woah.

Did Nintendo and Hal shortchange an old fan? I don't know. I don't like his new look much at all, and I'm not a fan that they gave him those blades, which completely stole the emphasis from his bow. He looks like a Marth-rehash, and not this holy soldier who fires away at flying noses and miniature reapers. It's... underwhelming.

Not to mention it's just "Oh, here's the trailer, and a few pictures to spoil it before you actually view the trailer. And the title of the article you saw it in said he was in it before you saw it. And we decided not to surprise you with him.. he just kinda flies into the frame and fights Meta Knight in a sword duel. Yes, a sword duel. We thought it was much cooler than his lame archery skills." Blargh.

I'm not trying to start a flamewar, just expressing grief. I don't feel let down or disappointed... I just wish they didn't change him so drastically. Granted, Link has gone through some crazy changes over the years, but we saw him in short installments every couple years. Pit just leapt out of nothingess after 15 long years. oy...

Anybody else feel this way?

The blades were kind of necessary... it'd be a little difficult to fight at close range with a bow, don't you think? And considering MOST of SSB's fighting takes place in close spaces... I think they were using their heads when they came up with that weapon.

Also... maybe it's just me, but... I really like the new design. He looks more like a cool warrior and less like... a dull, chubby, Beatles-haired kid. Yet he still looks child-like. I like it! ;D

I've only played Kid Icarus: Of Monsters and Myth, so maybe I don't have the fond memories you have. I think that he looks fine. A properly evolved version of Kid Icarus.

He looks pretty much like Link would have if he only appeared in in two games. I really like the design. Slightly anime-ish, but very, very nice.

And his logo would appear to be a bow and arrow, so don't discount some fancy arrow attacks yet!

How to fight with a bow in short range? You haven't tried it yet? Just take up the bow and hit it like you would with a homerun bat, and then take the arrows out and use those as you would with lances.

Anyway, Pit in an anime syle... actually I quite liked it. If the more traditional series (like FE and Metroid) can change, why can't SSB, and/or Kid Icarus, do the same?

well... i just saw his character page. Now I'm not so concerned. I guess they really are keeping him oldschool, but evolving him. Yeah... It's not so bad. I'm finally excited ;D

At least they said he'd still be archery based, which reassures me. I think just hearing them actually say what I was thinking confirmed that it was all okay, and explaining the blades DEFINITELY helped I'm very fanboyish like that...

And 5 bucks says his Down B is those crystals ;D

I assum he focuses on long ranged specials since his blades have such short rancge. Also I was looking at an old picture of Pit and they do look sinular. The cloths are a tad different, he dosn't have those Ceaser ear thing and hes a tad older, but not much else.

the olive branch is in the art for the Game Boy game. My biggest issue was really with the hair and face. Just.. too anime.

Well, it's Japanese. Pretty much every character in there looks anime, except Captain Falcon, who's styled more after American comic books. Kirby and the Pokémon look a hell of a lot more anime that Pit does.

That's the GB version of Pit. Obviously the new version changed a few things, but I think I like the changes compared to the above art.

It's really not that drastic a change, other than the size, face, and hair. All Nintendo art was like that ^ back then anyways, and look how different Link came out. It's just shocking at first, you know?

One thing I do like that they added, though, is that he wears a muscle shirt and shorts underneath the robes. It was kinda fruity to tell my friends "Look, it's Pit's trophy! Pit is so awesome!" and then see his underwear underneath and my friends all give me that weird look XD

But it does add that extra ounce of realism to the game, that's always so cool to see.

Yeah, have you seen any of the early Zelda art? Link was a cheeky-looking, big-nosed midget before being redesigned in the later games. And even then he didn't lose his massive hooter until the N64. ;D

I still love the fact that Pit is in there. It warms the cockles, so to speak.

I knew it was coming as well. If Sakurai had put Kid Icarus in there, keeping true to the original, then he would have been a disappointment to the fans. After all, what kind of greek hero uses credit cards and fights flying noses? A silly cartoon greek hero.

What Sakurai has done has redesigned Pit as the fans want to remember him... not as he actually was. And I was entirely expecting it to be the case, and I must say I am not disappointed with the result.

Besides... it could have been so much much worse-icus!

It's funny how Pit used to be a redhead and later had his hair color changed, just like old Link.
