Mario & Sonic Olympics: The Official Thread

To kickstart this official thread, I'm going to throw you all this scrap of meat:

Joystiq.com reports several events and characters (many previously unseen) for the Mario & Sonic Olympics. The article reads as follows:

Mario and Sonic will soon put their bitter 16-bit rivalry aside, sharing screen time in Sega and Nintendo's 'Bizarro World' collabo, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games. With the release for the Wii just a couple of months away, Sega has released details concerning the game's 20 authentic Olympic events, as detailed below:

* Fencing - Individual epée
* Archery
* Shooting - Skeet
* Gymnastics - Trampoline
* Gymnastics - Vault
* Field - High Jump
* Field - Pole Vault
* Field - Long Jump
* Field - Triple Jump
* Field - Javelin Throw
* Field - Hammer Throw
* Rowing - Single Sculls
* Table Tennis - Singles
* Aquatics - 100m Freestyle
* Aquatics - 4x100m Freestyle
* Track - 110m and 400m Hurdles
* Track - 4x100m Relay
* Track -100m and 400m

In addition, Sega has revealed that the game will include 16 different characters, 8 from Mario's universe, and 8 from Sonic's, and like in Mario Kart, the characters will each be broken up into different classes, all with their own strengths and weaknesses. For example, Knuckles and Bowser will be part of the Power class, making them ideal for events requiring the kind of strength that only a anthropomorphic lizard and echidna can muster. As always, Mario will be balanced all around, as will Sonic's Amy, while Sonic himself will obviously dominate the Speed class alongside our dark horse prediction, Yoshi.

The sixteen characters you can pick from on the outset (no word on secret characters or not) are:

All-Round: Mario, Luigi, Amy Rose, Blaze
Speed: Yoshi, Daisy, Sonic, Shadow
Power: Bowser, Wario, Knuckles, Vector
Technique: Peach, Waluigi, Tails, Eggman

Vector without Espio and Charmy? Odd, but reeka will be pleased. I'm almost certain there'll be some secret characters, too. Sega have said several times that there'll be over 20 characters to play as.

This most likly wont happen, but what if each company (Sega and Nintendo) added 3 characters from other series. Something like this:

Samus/Pikachu/Fox ( cant decide)

Sega:
NiGHTS (ME WANT THE NiGHTS!)
Aiai (super monkey ball dude)
Billy Hatcher/Ulala/Monkey from Samba de Amigo (cant decide)

So what do you think about my new and original idea?

Basically every Sonic Game besides Heros has some sort of a reference to NiGHTS and ROB is an external toy rather than an internal game character making an appearance. Roy's right, this game is really meant to showcase the Mario & Sonic universes not LoZ and Billy Hatcher persay. There may be a game for that in the future; this isn't it.

But then their going to give us a trailer where Solid Snake Pops up at the end.

And what was so New and Original about crossovers?

Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 proved that Sega is a bunch of liars.

...How? Everything they said was going to be in it was in it. The stuff that was cut we only know about because people hacked the demo version. XD

Sega lied about Sonic 06 because it was supposed to be a series reboot that only had Sonic and Eggman in it.

They never said that, it was a fan assumption. The closest thing Sega said to that effect was "For this game we went back to the beginning and looked at what made Sonic popular." Fans took the "went back to the beginning" part to mean it was a new continuity, which proves what idiots Sonic fans tend to be.

The whole time that was going on, I was trying to point out to those people how stupid they were being for thinking that's what it meant, but nobody listened until screens of other characters started appearing. I mean... what company in it's right mind celebrates 15 years of a series by erasing those 15 years from continuity?

Well, R.O.B. was just a cameo. If you mean you want the characters to appear as cameos, I'd expect to see only half of what you said.

That's simply not going to happen; At least not Link, but I would expect to see a NiGHTS reference possibly a poster or crowd member.
