Also, Kirbychu, the problem I'm having is that so far, you are the first person that has said that the camera is problematic and the worst ever. I'm not the first person who's said it's problematic. I'm the first person to call it the worst ever, but I'm being honest. But I have not once heard that for anyone else and have experienced no such problems. So logically, it must be you. Shut the fuck up. Other people in this thread mentioned having the same problem. Quit being an ass. What I have experienced is that the camera is annoying, but manageable. Annoying=/=inferior. ...Okay, you're batshit insane. Annoying does = inferior. Worse than Mario Sunshine does = inferior. You're admitting the camera is annoying, but at the same time still saying it's there's nothing wrong with it. Seriously, what the fuck?

The camera IS more annoying than Sunshine's - which remains the best one in the series so far. That shouldn't happen... I should have a lot more freedom when the angles start getting ridiculous.
I died because of the camera for the first time the other day... why can't I centre it behind me ALL the time? Why does it only let you do it sometimes? Hell, even SM64 managed to get that one right.
Smashchu - just because people aren't saying it out loud, doesn't mean it isn't true.
I'm curious to see what Edge magazine rated this game. I trust their opinion, and I doubt they'll give it the "truly revolutionary" 10/10 that they have awarded to just 6 games in over a decade.

The camera never bothered me much, mostly because I'm used to not using the camera buttons at all and was already at grips that the nature of Galaxy that the camera was going to be an issue as well as controls (though I was quite pleased that the controls were only minimally hindered by the nature of the game.)

And...I'm back. Been immersing myself in this game so much, I've been neglecting everything else!
Just done the first couple of stars in the garden dome, so I guess I'm fairly far along. Trying to drag out the experience as long as possible!
To jump in on this debate, the camera is quite bad in areas, especially coupled with those tiny sphere planets that are just the wrong size. But overall, its almost always easily rectified by the tap of the d-pad (almost! There's always some places you fear to tread due to dizzyness!)
But in general, I love this game! It brings back so many pleasant memories of Mario 64, whilst adding a big heap of new stuff that just makes you smile. Spoilerific examples: The orchestral score of a Bowser boss fight reminds me strongly of Star Wars music. Enemy Boos being turned on by Boo Mario! And figure-skating with Mario in icy places spring to mind!

Most of the time the camera would move exactly where I needed it. When it didn't it would normally refuse to move to a better place. At those times I would just hit up on the D-pad to look around. I can't remember ever dying due to the camera, but if I had it probably wouldn't bother me. The game throws 1-ups around like confetti. Why worry over one death?

Smashchu - just because people aren't saying it out loud, doesn't mean it isn't true. But I post on more message boards then here, and know many people who own the game. Very few people say the camera is bad/annoying. Heck, trolls on /v/ don't even use that. Again annoying=/=inferior. It makes up for the lack of control by being pretty much auto. In most areas it will set up the camera so you know both where you are going and so that you can see. While in this it can be awkward (doing the sonic thing and being fixed) it rarely results in death. It's annoying because it gives you limited control over it. It wouldn't be the first game to do this, but it probably does it the best. But, again, my problem was I have only heard from you that the camera is the worse, and that you died 4 times in two days becuase of it. If the camera was really that much of a problem, there probably would have been a few rants on /v/, or many of the others who played it, but there haven't been. IGN said the same thing as I. It wont cause death all that often, and be more like Fry's case where youy die maybe once. So I think you are over exaggerating it, from the information I am receiving. But lets just say this, if the camera was as bad as you say it is, would this game be getting 9.5-10? But what I'm trying to get across is that your over exaggerating this problem. I think I might have driven the stake to far. I'm not trying to be an ass, just direct (which may be the same thing actually). I'll end it here for I can't say much more. Sorry for being an ass. Wasn't trying to. Now, I forgot to say this. Many people here have said the power ups shouldn't be timed or last longer. The reason for the time is becuase every challenge where you use them is time based. I will agree that they should be longer. Makes them more fun. Also be nice to see the fire flower more often.

In regards to the items, it's the same as Super Mario 64, with temporary items needed for certain puzzles. But then SM64 also made a lot more use of them. Fire Flower, Ice Flower and Rainbow Star barely turn up in the game at all. If I used them more for puzzles, I wouldn't mind.
Although I liked the Bee Suit, and the "don't fall in the water" challenges it posed ;D

I did read one critic say the Ice Flower was on of the best things in a Mario game that was severely underused. Which is true. Hey, wallkicking off a waterfall is just win. Of course, you see the rainbow star a lot. Going though the game a second time, I found it hidden quite a bit. You'll be surprised how often it pops up.

But lets just say this, if the camera was as bad as you say it is, would this game be getting 9.5-10? Yes, because the game is still fantastic. And again I'll ask what the hell drugs you're taking when you say annoying =/= inferior, because I would like some.

Again annoying=/=inferior. Annoying = Inferior. Theres just no other way to put it. I mean here are your choices Annoying = Inferior Annoying = Same (Which is the same as saying Annoying = NOT Annoying) Annoying = Superior. Annoying = Inferior and Annoying = Superior are the only logical choices, and I'll be danged if Annoying = Superior.

And again I'll ask what the hell drugs you're taking when you say annoying =/= inferior, because I would like some. It's like I said (or what I think I said). The camera is annoying becuase of us. It works, for the most part, on an auto system. It will, for the majority of challenges, set it's self into a position where on can see. But it's annoying becuase it will take control away from the user, and sometimes require you to have to move to actually get it to work (not sure why, but moving around always fixes it). But, I just realized this not to long ago. I'm being a hypocrite. I remembered that I said the Phantom Hourglass had one of the worst opening of gaming. This situation is no different. I did what I said I always do; I argue an opinion. Not sure why. So, on that note I'm sorry Kirbychu. At the least you see my side of it. I don't think you guys will see my Annoying=/=Inferior, as much as I argue it. Also, Spud, it's doesn't work like that. It's pretty much equal or not equal, and the sciatics work from there. Here, with "Annoying Inferior" they are either = or =/=. It's not what Annoying equal, but how it does. So, it's one of two. Either = or =/=.

Ahh, grammar math.
Anyway, here's some stuff about the 100% Completion reward that I just need to get off my chest, so heavy spoilers below.
Now, first and foremost, Super Mario Galaxy is a fantastic journey--it's very complete from the first star to the hundred and twentieth. And the reward for what you get for getting all 120 stars and beating the game twice is "Super Luigi Galaxy," where you get the chance to play as Luigi instead of Mario. A lot of you already know this.
SLG itself is a lot of fun, but unfortunately it feels incomplete. You can tell some effort was put into it, but it's not as good as it could be; Luigi's head is stuck on a recolor of Mario's body, for starters, even though his game mechanics have been changed to fit Luigi's standard "runs faster, jumps higher, dick for traction" gameplay. They've also changed most mentions of "Mario" to "Luigi," but occasionally they slip up and let one by.
Another thing that has not changed that is somewhat disappointing is Luigi's involvement in Mario's storyline--for Luigi's, absolutely nothing has changed except for dialogue between Playable Luigi and NPC Luigi. Sometimes it's pretty good, but this could have at least been changed to another character--maybe not Mario, but someone else. Coupled with the fact that Luigi has all of the same cinematics at the end of the game as Mario, but is completely missing the opening scenes, it just doesn't feel as complete as it should.
My last and largest gripe with SLG is that only a handful of Luigi's stars are drastically different from Mario's; these are all the Cosmic Comet Stars, of which there are five at most (and I'm being generous). Cosmic Luigi is actually much more of a dick than Cosmic Mario was; he's faster and more technical, using his jumping prowess to its full potential. These goals are actually pretty difficult compared to Mario's, where you can leave Cosmic Mario in the dust without trying. But for all other Stars, the difficulty only changes because of Luigi's different gameplay style, which isn't very drastic.
The point of this, though, is to say that the game does not suffer from SLG's flaws. I came into the game expecting just to have Mario to play as; Mario's version alone is incredible and enjoyable. SLG itself is likewise enjoyable despite being incomplete, and is really just a bonus when stacked on top of the main body of the game. And I'm still gonna beat Luigi mode--I love my Man in Green after all.

I do see what your getting at Tei.
I think that maybe they did have that in mind, but they may have wanted to make those levels harder becuase Luigi's long jump is so...well, you know.
I don't think the intention was to make Luigi harder, but to add some replay value, and what better way to do that then add what everyone has clamored for.

Yeah, I can see that...still, I would have also appreciated an additional challenge on top of everything else, you know? Like I said, the way it stands now, there's no negative effect on the main body of the game--it's just something I wish they had put a bit more time into.

It's not what Annoying equal, but how it does. So, it's one of two. Either = or =/=. ...I don't understand. And my head hurts now. Galaxy's camera is infinately more frustrating and less manageable than Sunshine or even 64's. Therefore, by definition, the camera is inferior. You can't argue with definition.
