I agree with Flip's assessment, except that DK Jr. would be just too cool and bring back the original eight. I suggest R.O.B. and he uses the Gyromite top from Smash now!

DK Jr wouldn't be a stupid choice - in terms of the Mario Kart series, he's as 'retro' as you can get.

Personally I hate characters racing baby versions of themselves, but DK Jr was my second favourite character in SMK (behind Bowser), and I wouldn't say no to him being included.
