There's more hate on the Wii and Nintendo in general than I thought. For example, I've heard one too many people saying, "I hate the Wii! I mean, we always have to get off our fat asses and actually move! Where's the fun in that?" But that's the whole point! If you don't like having to move to play games, then you have a friggen problem! Lazy Americans.
Another thing is all the hate on Mario, Kirby, Pokemon, etc. They fret all about how childish they are, but who the hell cares? It's fun! I don't feel embarrased to play these games. In fact, I'm proud that I actually play games that are just as decent as Halo and GTA crap. I mean, you don't have to shoot gangs or nuke the Empire State building to have fun!

It's called fanboyism. Nothing is universally loved.

It's called fanboyism. Nothing is universally loved. Except pancakes. ANYONE WHO DISAGREES WITH THE ABOVE IS A COMMUNIST NAZI SEAL CLUBBER.

ANYONE WHO DISAGREES WITH THE ABOVE IS A COMMUNIST NAZI SEAL CLUBBER. It warrants all caps but not an exclamation point? Hmm?

I don't hear this hate. Pretty much everyone I know who has played one loves the system and the way it plays. Maybe the British are just a bit more active than Americans The hate I hear is about there being bugger all to play on it. And again, this comes exclusively from fans of other Nintendo consoles, rather than the new gamers Nintendo is courting.

I think the marketing in America has largely ignored hardcore or even casual gamers to the point that they build resentment for the system. It's the same reason the PSP is slowly starting to overtake the DS in support.
I view the current Nintendo stance almost like if J.K. Rowling or some other really famous propietor of a fandom randomly shifted gears midstream and started writing about Communist spies and giant robots. It would have more mass appeal, maybe, but it totally abandons that original audience. Brawl is largely the ONLY Wii game that Nintendo fanboys have had to themselves; everything else is simplified to the point of ultimate stupidity. They have become no different than the people who make games for cell phones or Flash. I'm still a loyal Nintendo fan, but I do find myself pining for older days more and more often as of late...

It's the same reason the PSP is slowly starting to overtake the DS in support. Well, I haven't played my DS in months. Seems the only games to come out for it are learning games. I DON'T PLAY GAMES TO LEARN PEOPLE! Though, I've been playing my PSP like crazy.

...and even then, TP was too much of a re-run of OoT for it's own good, and SMG ended up being far less challenging and complex than either of the two previous 3D Marios.

I got through SMG in less than two days, and that was while working. 64 and Sunshine took weeks, and that was in school/college time, when free time wasn't so rare.
