First, let me explain what is a "block-based" puzzle game. There are a LARGE number of games considered as puzzles. Say, Tetris, Dr Mario, Panepon, .........., even G&W Bombsweeper. So, let's make the renge smaller, eh? A block-based puzzle is a puzzle game that you play with square "blocks". Say, for Kurukuru Kururin, some may not consider it as a puzzle and some may, but either way, it's not based on "blocks". I'll give some example of what I call "block-based" puzzles so that you'll know what I am talking about: PanePon, Sutte Hakkun, Dr Mario, Tetris, Polarium, Yoshi's Cookie, Mario & Yoshi, Wrecking Crew '98, Kirby's Star Stacker, Soukoban and Pricross are examples of puzzle games. (I'm gonna love the Nintendo Power! C'mon! Teleport me to Japan!) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- So you got the idea, eh? Let's start discussing! Ahh yeah, if you think any non-Nintendo puzzles are good, write them down! For me, let's see... I LOVE Panepon, and among them I like Pokémon Puzzle League the best. I also like Tetris (One of the reason for me to buy the GBC), but I only have the Game Boy version. The next one... POLARIUM RULES!!!!! Otherwise I won't buy it, eh? I like Sutte Hakkun, but not as much as those mentioned above. I like its music a lot, though.

Hmmm... let's see...
TETRIS!
I think Tetris is easily the best "block-based" game - the original version, with its unbeatable Russian tunes - no gimmicks, no depth, just addictive gameplay! I now want to play it.
Dr. Mario is alright, but I do love that tune (the "Fever" one).
I don't know many others... this Polarium is getting good attention - perhaps it's time to read into it? Methinks, yes!

I'd question Picross's inclusion, as it's actually a logic puzzle rather than a block-based puzzle. Still, Picross is one of my favourite puzzle games of all time.
But scratching that, Dr. Mario would have to be my favourite block puzzler. It's somehow more compelling than Tetris due to its simplicity... an error is so COMPLETELY your own fault, but just about every error can be undone.
Marginally beats Tetris, IMO

OK - I think I'm about to go all puzzle-game-mad on you all here! I've just been re-reminded of how much I love Tetris, and then I went and read about Polarium and Meteos... and... I WANT PUZZLE-GAMES!!! I think the DS will be my puzzle-game-system. ;D Mario, Zelda, and puzzles-galore! It seems that innovation really has a chance in good puzzle-games with infinite replay value. (This has just opened a new world to me here... I'm kind of freaking out... )

Hmmm... let's see... TETRIS!I think Tetris is easily the best "block-based" game - the original version, with its unbeatable Russian tunes - no gimmicks, no depth, just addictive gameplay! Also, I like the Chill music more when talking about orignal, and my fav is Dr Mario 64's "Que Que" music.

The original Tetris is still my favorite GameBoy puzzle game that I still have in my Japanese Gameboy collection. I also like the Famicom game Tetris 2 + BomBliss, where it had two games in one cart and it's where Tetris Blast originally came from.

Probably Dr. Mario. Though, I'm also really enjoying Meteos, so when they DS version of that come out it might become my favorite..

Tetris wins hands down. Other good ones I've played are Dr. Mario and Panel de pon (you know, Tetris Attack). But Tetris still wins.

Tetris Attack (Panepon) is one of the most-loved puzzlers ever, so I'm surprised no-one here has picked it out as their favourite.

I got it with my Super Famicom I bought 3 days ago, and it rules. ^_^

Tetris!
But if I can also pick non-Nintendo block-based puzzle games, then my second favourite would be Eggo Mania.
EDIT: D'oh! How could I ever forget Wario's Woods!? If that counts as a block-based puzzle, then that's my favourite. And after that comes Tetris, and Eggo Mania third.

I believe we're all okay with non-Nintendo puzzlers being included here, right? Wario's Woods would indeed count. A list of Nintendo games that would be included: - Dr. Mario - Happy Panechu! - Kirby's Star Stacker / Kirakira Kids - Meteos - Panepon / Tetris Attack - Polarium - Tetris - Tetris 2 / Tetris Flash - Tetris Blast - Tetrisphere - Wario's Woods - Yoshi - Yoshi's Cookie
