microsites.ign.com/kfc/top99gamesYes, at the moment the highest one is 41 or so. But... this is what makes me furious about it... WHY DID SSBM ONLY MAKE 44 ON IT?! It's Nintendo's most popular game. I can only see bad things for Nintendo on that list to come. Maybe the more recent Zelda's. Maybe SM64 But if SSBM doesn't do well, I don't see much doing well. This list sucks. I would have fixed the following. Phantasy Star IV - Higher Taken off all the mediocre sports titles that only a sport obsessed gangsta would play SSBM - Higher etc I know the top 10 will consist of something Halo, Halflife 2, something GTA, and all other games released in 2005. Gar! IGN is way too mainstream, they judge games by popularity, which usually picks mediocre games. What do you think about this list?

Well... SSBM is popular, sure, but Nintendo has pumped out better material in the past - I'm sure we'll see some other Zelda and Super Mario titles higher up - Super Mario Bros. is the godfather of console games, so I'd be dissapointed if it didn't do well...
As for IGN's mainstream inclination - it is mainstream, sure, but the list isn't that bad. Plus, the list has been compiled by votes, correct? Votes from who? People who play video games. Mainstream gamers would make up the majority of thar group.
Don't blame IGN - blame everyone who plays games, for they constitute the "mainstream". Sure, we Nintendo fans like certain games, but most people tend to overlook them - "most" is the operative word there.
And there are good games on other systems too...
On SSBM again, though, maybe it could have done better, but it mustn't have gotten the votes. What can I say. The game is great, but if the voting gaming public don't think it's top 10 material, then there's not much we can do.
I agree with your sentiment, but I also agree with mine... ;D

I can only see bad things for Nintendo on that list to come. Maybe the more recent Zelda's. Lesse... of around 60 games, 15 (1 out of 4) were put out by Nintendo and one other was clossly affliated with Nintendo. I'd say Nintendo is doing quite well. As for other games I'd expect to see on there.... Well, Super Mario Bros. 1, 3, and 64, Yoshi's Island, Wario Ware Inc., Zelda: Oot & WW, Kirby's Adventure & SuperStar, GameBoy Tetris, GoldenEye, Metroid 1, 2, & 3, Metroid Prime 1 & 2, Punch-Out!! & Super Punch-Out!!, Animal Crossing, StarFox & 64... There certainly is no shortage of Nintendo games that could show up. Hell, Mario, Zelda & Metroid alone are enough to keep their ration up, so I imagine it'll probably get a bit higher.

SSBM at 44 is a bit low for my taste, but its not that bad. SSB could (should?) be higher, as it was really original and great fun. SSBM is awesome but its an expanded version of SSB, so maybe thats why it isn't that high.
And Nintendo will do fine - Either SMB3, YI, OoT or SM64 will most likely make top spot, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if they all made it into the top 10. Metroid Prime will come close, too, as will probably SMB and SMW.
EDIT: SMW is in the 50s. Still, I stick by my predictions of the #1 spot being taken by one of the 4.

Mainstream gamers? Voting? Good lord! #1 will be held by Halo or Grand Theft Auto: San Taclaus or something!
When by all rights it should be held by Zelda or Mario... games that have defined gaming itself.

SMB3 only made 32 SM64 only made 31 Hopefully 1-30 aren't TOO mainstream, which they are. I still am quite mad at IGN, they suck at rating. I look at their ratings on compilations. Activision Anthology (exact emulation -- on PS2) - "Blocky graphics" ...wtf? they're original ports of Atari 2600 titles. Then we look at compilations with revised graphics -- "They should have kept it the way it is" There's no way to satisfy them unless a game is mad mainstream. Heads will roll if Animal Crossing isn't on the list.

I can't believe IGN now. They were good, at a by-gone era...a nice site with previews, snapshots, how I enjoyed the previews of Pokemon GS and EarthBound 64...
Of course. At least they never put "Action 52" on the list.

Well, you can't really expect much from these people. Although the low-ranked Mario games (3, World, and 64 all deserve to be in top 20). It's a bloody miracle Dragon Force made it on there. But still, from what I've seen, there are tons of truly great games missing: Gunstar Heroes, Street Fighter III: Third Strike, Samurai Shodown II, Ape Escape, Lunar, or any of the Contra and Panzer Dragoon games.
I've always dreaded every Top 100 games list since EGM did their's in December of 2001, because I knew all others would pale in comparison to EGM's perfect one.

Go Yoshi's Island! Go!
And GTA: San Andreas is a real good game. Lots and lots of things to do, very good design, ability to play for hours without really doing anything, whatever. It deserves to be in the top 30, for sure.

I know it's a good game, but I expect it'll be at number one for reasons of violence and bloodshed rather than reasons of gameplay, because that's what the mainstream want.

Bad mainstream! Bad! ;D
Ah well, as long as IGN keeps bringing me Zelda '05 updates, then I ain't complaining - although, Gamespot is better for watching videos, cos you don't have to pay and subscribe.

Actually I have a paid subscription for a year on IGN, some members on there will just buy you a subscription out of kindness.
