I don't want to weigh in on any of the more contentious issues here, but I will say that I haven't tested the difficult-sounding F-Zero sighting, nor have I laid eyes on Giga Robo.
Honestly, Mark: I think you're too stringent in your criticism, but that's your call to make. It means that your website is concise, and I respect brevity.

I like a good debate to flare up here though. It's what sets these forums aside from others I no longer want to visit. If enough people requested it, I would put a "MAYBE cameo" on the website. The F-Zero GX page is a case in point - it contains all of the maybe and debunked cameos and my reasons for not believing them or putting them on hold. However, if I was less cautious about this, then NinDB would have a lot of inaccuracies - mostly submissions or research on other websites that just wouldn't be true. Perhaps I would never have looked for an alternate connection to the "Mario Paint Song" if I didn't act suspicious around many of these cameos Giga Robo definitely isn't a ROB cameo though. You can see why people might believe it, but it's a case of people looking too hard for connections that aren't there or that don't make sense.

Ah, but Mr. EAD was fat, had a Starman on his belt, and... was called Mr. EAD. I'm playing devil's advocate here, but oh well. The name Mr. EAD is a reference to a developer, not a character. The character itself is just a fat guy with a mustache which, according to Fry, does not a Mario reference make. The star with eyes isn't exclusive to the Mario franchise. Maybe the same artist that worked on the Mario games drew Mr. EAD, and he has a consistent style, so any similarities could be coincidence. So he's a clear reference to the developer, but not a conclusive reference to Mario. Right, Fry?

The fact that he's named after the developer that makes the main Mario games, has a mustache like Mario's, and has a belt buckle identical to the most well-known item in the Mario franchise is a few too many coincidences at once, if you ask me.

Actually, what's funny is that when F-Zero X first came out, I (along with everyone else I knew) recognized James McCloud and Zoda right away. But someone had to point out to me that Mr. EAD was supposed to look like Mario, because that didn't stand out to me at all.

I recognised James, but not Zoda... and I didn't get the Mr. EAD thing for a while, aside from the Starman belt, which I got instantly. But that's just because, at the time, I had never heard of EAD. I just didn't get the reference.

If you want me to prove I'm not picking on Star Tropics fans specifically, here you go: I realised John Tanaka had the same surname as Hirokazu "Hip" Tanaka, one of Nintendo's music men. I ran around looking for a way to prove some connection, but so far I have found nothing. And so, sadly, I have had to leave it out of the cameos list, despite the fact it may well be a reference! That's no different to Zoda. Mr. EAD is clearly a reference to Mario! You obviously couldn't look at his bulbous, grotesque face long enough to notice it

Well, once again, Tanaka is a real name (and, I'm assuming, not uncommon in Japan--I could probably find at least a few instances in game credits [besides Hip, of course]), as is Leon. And anthros, octopi, and fat guys with mustaches are not unique. But the name Zoda is not at all common by any stretch of the imagination, even in the realm of video games. For me, that significantly decreases the likelihood of coincidence, especially in the context of a game with other similar references.
So I don't think you make a very good comparison. You might as well be saying that Dracula is as easily mistakable as Smith.
FYI, Zoda is apparently a real human name, but I bet you didn't know that!

I actually knew a girl named Zoda years ago. Dammit, I shoulda mentioned that earlier...

In my eyes, nothing is a cameo unless obvious or proven. EAD is obvious, as is James Mccloud. Zoda and Tanaka are possibly references, as is Octoman. But as much as I'd love 'em to be cameos, until I see something concrete they shall remain in limbo.
Don't know what else to say really. I actually think i have exhausted my thoughts on the matter.
For the record, if EAD only had the moustache then he'd also only be a "maybe" cameo. The name and belt swings it.

For the record, if EAD only had the moustache then he'd also only be a "maybe" cameo. The name and belt swings it. Hold up... what? So if Mr EAD was named Fred, and had no belt, and no other references / similarities to Mario, aside from a moustache and being fat, he'd be a 'maybe' reference? Aside from that going completely against your point previous post, that would mean that any fat person with a moustache is now possibly a reference to Mario. Thats crazy. Corey, I think you broke his brain.

No, I meant if EAD looked the same as he did now, but the only tie to Mario was the curly Mario moustache, someone might then point out:
"Dur it's supposed ta be Mario!"
And he would be packed in with Zoda, Tanaka and Octoman whose links to Star Tropics, staff members and Zelda respectively are no more or less tenuous than that.

Yeah, I keep thinking this thread is going to end, and it just keeps going on and on like some nightmare. It's a stalemate--a simple disagreement. I think that, under the circumstances, Zoda is much more likely a reference than not, and under those same circumstances, Fry thinks it's much more likely a coincidence than not. Ice cream with your cake?

In a way I want you to find something more concrete, because it would be great to have a Star Tropics cameo ;D
But you're right. Let's stop now and look for that ROB in F-Zero GX.

MAJOR BUMP!!
I thought it would be better to bump this thread instead of making a new one.
Well I looked at the Wikipedia article on R.O.B. today and it this in the cameos section.
"R.O.B. is seen on a picture frame in the Old Chateau from Pokémon Diamond and Pearl."
Also did anyone ever (I would think no one did) confirm the second R.O.B. cameo in F-Zero GX?
