The Pit of a 100 Trials(I think that's it's name) looks like it takes place in a Game & Watch game.

In 7-2, you are subjected to a "boss fight" with a setup reminiscent of Dragon Warrior (where you can only see the enemy against a black background without being able to see the hero).

Earthbound occurred to me, but I only played like ten minutes of that, so I don't remember it much.

Somemore from good old world 6
Gate 21-"Thousand-Year Roar" Gate 24-"Useless badge" Gate 36-"You are late. You have much to learn about timing from Action Commander. No audience can contain it's applause when I execute moves of great style" After you defeat him "Never again will I let cheers of 'stylish' cloud my head" Gate 58-"Over the Flagpole. He says the tune when you grab the pole in SMB(Doddlee-de-doddle-de-do-do) Gate 67-I forget his name but it's something like "Mustard of pain" and he says "MY SWORD HAS FURRY" Gate 72-After you defeat him, he says "Is this the anchient prophecy "TOUCH FUZZY GET DIZZY"
EDIT:lol more!
-You can start a kind of trade quest by talking to Merlee in Flopside. During which, when you give Bestovious the "You-Know-what" he'll give you the Training Device, which is a DS Lite -When ever you use Piccolo's power, your character's sound effects will change to those from SMB, they are Jump Hitting enimies Bowser's Fire(the sound the fireballs make)

Three more cameos: - First, if you go to the Fortune Shop in Flopside, you can have Merlee charm you for a certain amount of coins. Each time you accept, she'll shout "WIIIIIII!" before casting the spell.
- Second, during the Piccolo sidequest, you have to obtain "Training Equipment" for Merluvlee, from Bestovius. The "Training Equipment" is really a Nintendo DS, which Bestovius says Merluvlee can have because he has "upgraded to the newer, sleeker model;" so it's more of a cameo and a half.
- Third, again during the Piccolo sidequest; bring the "Training Equipment" to Merluvlee, and the player will 'ask' her what she's training, exactly. Merluvlee will reply, "Why, my brain, of course!"
EDIT: Make that four: - In the Flopside Milk Shop, if you flip and go towards the camera, you'll eventually come across two treasure chests; one of them contains a "Cooking Disk B" item, which is meant for the Dining Synthesizer, and is shaped like a DS cartridge.

Lots of shifting colors, sometimes a pattern. It's absolutely never entirely black.

This may be an In-Sires Reference: During the first Count Bleck Cutscene MiMi turns into Bowser just before askin Demntio (or however you spell that) if He/She had been reding her direy. (In Paper Mario (n64) Peach reads Bowser's Diary) Another: The You know what was also in Paper Mario N64 in the form a a VHS I beleve. I'm starting to wonder what the You know what is, and why old guys watch it in both games. Also, Mario is constantly referd to as "The Hero" or "The Legendary Hero" or something of the sort and is oftan identified as "The Hero" by his clothse; possibly a parody of Legend of Zelda. I just remembered this one earlier. There are Catch Cards for all fifteen partners from the last two Paper Mario games; I forget how you get the Paper Mario 1 partners, but you get the TTYD partner cards by beating all 100 Sammer Guys after World 6 has been restored from destruction.

Lots of shifting colors, sometimes a pattern. It's absolutely never entirely black. If you look at MOTHER/EarthBound Zero, it is based on Dragon Quest with a black background and no sign of the hero character. Know your history. I still need to get a Wii so I can play this.

Few more after beating Sammer's Kingdom
Mustard of pain is actually "Mustard of Doom" 97 I beleive is a reference to the Tanooki suit.
I'll update this when I find the sheet I wronte this on.
