I figured this is pretty interesting: -In Paper Mario, one of the items is named a Snowman Doll, which looks very similar and has the same name of the item you get right before the second boss fight. Also, the chapter system is very similar to that of StarTropics, but this could be a coincidence. -One of the racers in F-Zero X is named Zoda, and also is known for being very evil, just like the StarTropics Zoda. They are also both alien-esque.

We've been over the F-Zero Zoda thing a MILLION times! They look nothing like each other, they're not developed by the same team, and Star Tropics wasn't released in Japan, so they're not going to cameo it. Those are my brief reasons - do a forum search for Zoda to find all of my reasons for not including it as a cameo.
The other one isn't a cameo either. They're two Snowmen. They don't even look the same.

It may not be a game, but you gotta admit that Ryu/Rick from F-Zero Falcon Legend (the animated series) looks an awful lot like Mike Jones, and coupled with the fact that Zoda was made his chief nemesis....

The Paper Mario snowman is based on the one from Mario 64 so... It's a snowman with a bucket on it's head. It's a japan thing.

But they're both called Snowman Doll. EDIT: StarTropics was, however, made by Japanese developers. I just searched for Zoda and got zip except this topic. And of course he doesn't look like Zoda. He's either disguised or a hideous giant monster. I just think it's an awfully big coincidence to have two evil aliens who both have an archenemy who's a teenager that look similar and are both named Zoda. How many Zodas do you know anyway? Besides, James McCloud doesn't look much like him either, but somehow that counts.

I still say that at the very least naming the villain Zoda in either game is more than a coincidence. It's like people always swearing that the summons in the FF Tactics games aren't the bosses from the classic series because they're separate teams, but who is to say they aren't being nice and referential as fans? "Oh my god, Mario is in a Sonic Olympics game but it's not the same team!" "How did Samus end up in Kirby, it's not the same team!" "Link is in Mario RPG? But that was made by Square!" You're assuming they can't be fans of the material.
All that said, Star Tropics really isn't referenced in anything. Rick Wheeler, the kid from Card Hero, and even Ness resemble Mike in some small way. However, Mike wasn't exactly the most unique character design known to man. It's only expected that there are a few lookalikes floating around, right?
What was the verdict on that Card Hero monster, btw. The one that looked like Mike. We decided it was totally unrelated, right?

I stand by the view that if Zoda looked anything like Zoda, then he'd be a cameo. But he doesn't... so he isn't. It's just the same name.
I have yet to be convinced by a single StarTropics cameo that has been suggested anywhere. Zoda's come closest, and we know where I stand on that issue.

I used to think the Ray Gun in Melee was from Star Tropics, but now I realize it's clearly not. Ugh.. there's gotta be something SOMEWHERE. A series like that can't just up and fall off the face of the planet.

Actually, Zoda's outfit in the F-Zero anime like I mentioned before looks like Zoda from Star Tropic's outfit as well.

Honestly, I was looking at some of the sprites of Zoda, and I have to say his head form... looks A LOT like F-Zero Zoda.
