Looks like a sequel to the GameCube (and PS2) RPG Tales of Symphonia is on its way to the Wii, altho no international release has yet been announced. According to IGN, the game will have two new main characters, but characters from the original game will also make appearances. ToS was the last RPG I really bothered to get into, but I have to admit I mostly enjoyed it. I think it was the real-time battle system that helped keep me involved. I also loved the cell-shaded graphics. The story and characters were pretty bland, tho. Still, I'm glad to see it get a sequel since it seems to have a lot of fans. Here's hoping for a release outside of Japan. Anyway, here's IGN's article (also covering a DS Tales game), another article that also mentions two other Tales games for the PS2 and PSP, and a pretty cool looking screenshot. |

I'm really psyched about this. I loved ToS; it really set a new bar for gaming, and proved that video games could also be so incredible as to be an art form.
But by that standard, the sequel also has a lot to live up to, and Tales games tend to be hit-and-miss anyway. Hopefully this one will pull through and do justice to its predecessor.

I'm quite excited about this game, but there are a few small snags that do concern me.
* No world map. That was part of the fun of the last game, but in this one, it's point-and-click to travel around. I guess that reduces the amount of aimless wandering...but again, I kind of liked that.
* Different character designer. Kosuke Fujishima's not on board for this, and that is disappointing. I hope the replacement works in a similar style (or they get the guy who's doing the ToS anime, because he is doing the characters justice!).
* Lloyd and Co. are poised to be cameos, nothing more, from what the articles have read. It's fine and dandy to do that, but ToS had strong characters, and I hope that a good amount of the cast of ToS are more than that and are playable.
* Lastly, they've added Dragon Quest staple monster summoning ot the mix, which I'm unsure about. The combat in ToS was great - why add things that may not be necessary? Could be fun, but still...it's concerning.
Despite my initial worries, I have a lot of high hopes pegged on this. I want this to be stunning. And I hope it will be. It's become one of my most wanted games already because I loved ToS. Pleas, PLEASE don't screw it up Namco.

Well, I noticed in the nine days since I started this thread that, despite initially getting only one reply, the view count shot up to well over 100. I guess a lot of lurkers are really interested in a sequel to Tales of Symphonia (or just one person keeps clicking on the thread several times a day  ). I hope it does get an international release, because while ToS wasn't the first Tales game to get a US release, it was still kinda the breakout game for the series. You would think that'd make the sequel a likely candidate for localization. Despite my loss of interest in RPG's, I pulled out my copy of ToS and started messing around with it again. While I still don't think the story and characters are much to get excited about, I have to admit the game does have a lot of charm, and the battles are still a lot of fun. (I kind of wish Skies of Arcadia had a system like it.) It's a good, solid RPG that clearly had a lot of care put into its creation. I just might actually be interested in trying the sequel. |

I'll probobly get this game. I like Talkes. Sure, it's story wasn't nessisarly amazing, but it did allow you to change up how you want to do something and allow some effect on the plot.

Here's the Japanese trailer for the new Tales of Symphonia. I don't think there's any official word on an international release, yet, but I would say it's pretty likely. The Japanese release is scheduled for early 2008. |

I have heard (unfounded) speculation that Lloyd's design was influenced by Cervantes. I wonder if this has anything to do with that, or if it's just a guest spot, like Link. |

It's odd for this to pop up just now, but a demo of the new Tales of Symphonia was at Jump. IGN posted some very brief hands-on impressions that hardly reveal anything, but you guys might find it interesting anyway. |

New trailer from Jump, and it's really good! It has beautiful graphics (better than the GameCube version) and lots of familiar faces. This game's looking better all the time! |

Yay! It looks like the entire main cast from ToS is returning (with the exception of Kratos?), even Regal and Presea! Huzzah!
Oh man, I missed Zelos and Sheena D: They're a sight for sore eyes!

Wii Fanboy relays that Nintendo Power has announced the expected U.S. released of the new Tales of Symphonia. No actual date has been suggested, but it's localized title will be "Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World." ("Ratatosk" was kind of an ugly looking word anyway.)
