IMO, "Headfungus" is an indefinitely more original name than "Silver." "Silver" is no less original than "Sonic", "Tails" or "Knuckles".  |

Naw, Sonic Tails and Knuckles are all pretty original, I mean a hedgehog that runs super fast? A fox with two tails that can fly? An Echidna that glides and climbs walls? I've never seen it done before. Silver is a hedgehog that uses psychic powers...everyone and their grandma's come up with characters who use psychic powers. And they made him a hedgehog too, just like Sonic! Why not a ...chinchilla or something. |

Yeah, I just meant name-wise. Sonic characters generally just use an English dictionary word that describes them for a name. There are a few exceptions, though, like Amy (which means "beloved one"), Tikal (named after the city Sonic Team studied while making the game) and Mephiles (named after Mephistophiles, a demon in a German legend). Incoming nerdage! And they made him a hedgehog too, just like Sonic! Why not a ...chinchilla or something. In his earliest form, Silver the Hedgehog was actually Venice the Mink. It was decided early on that, in order for Amy's appearance in the plot to make any sense, he needed to be a hedgehog. Then, much later (after the game's script was finalised and translated, even) they decided that Venice the Hedgehog sounded silly, and changed his name to Silver. Fan fact, or useless trivia? Well, "Tails" is just his nickname. His real name is Miles Prower. Oh, I got a story about that, too! But, uh... too much for one day, perhaps.  EDIT: Ah, screw it, I can stand to bore you all some more. So, Tails was designed by a level designer for Sonic 2. He wanted his name to be Miles Prower, but the rest of Sonic Team insisted on Tails. The guy slipped "Miles" signs into the Casino Night background (as well as a few other places), and so, as a compromise, the team decided to make Miles Prower his real name, and Tails his more commonly used nickname. |

Actually, when were Shadow and Silver confirmed? I've only seen Sonic, Amy and Eggman. And I've seen Knuckles, Blaze and Big as background characters for the Sonic court, but that's it.
