^ I'm not surprised, but still just a little disappointed. It was supposed to be a big budget, high profile, single-player-oriented action RPG, and there aren't too many of those on the Wii. I expect it would've had high production values, and we don't see enough of that on the Wii, either. Anyway, I'm still waiting for a North American release announcement for Echoes of Time. Then again, I haven't played Ring of Fates yet. EDIT: 1up.com has an article up explaining how the online gameplay works. Apparently, you can join or create a multiplayer game at any save point in the game. Chat is handled via either an on-screen keyboard or preset sentence balloons that are context sensitive. Square-Enix's promotion of the Pollux Engine for this game makes me wonder if they plan on using it a lot for future games.

...And a big sigh of relief all around! It's a good sign if Square Enix is going out of its way to crush rumors of cancellation. Yet, it's been so long since we've heard anything new about the game. I wonder if we'll be lucky enough to get a screenshot or two. EDIT: No screenshots, but rather an official statement denying the cancellation of the game has recently been released. (Didn't they already do that?) “While much of EGM’s ‘Rumor Mill’ contents end up being accurate, in this case the report is incorrect.
We have never announced that Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers has been cancelled and have every intention of releasing it. There may be some concerns as a firm ship date has not been set but rest assured there will be an announcement once we finalize the date internally.
Although there are many Square Enix related rumors out there that we do not comment on, due to the feedback from the readers, we felt it was necessary to provide a statement to alleviate the worries of those who are looking forward to the game. The fan base that the Final Fantasy series has is appreciated by everyone at Square Enix (not only the developers) so we hope this statement will prevent any further spreading of the rumor.
We apologize for any unnecessary distress this rumor may have caused and hope the fans of the series can again look forward to the upcoming release of Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers.” - Square-Enix statement Source: GoNintendoI have to admit, it is better than the usual "we don't comment on rumors and speculation" line that's usually dished out.

Magazine scan for the game. There's a picture of the boxarts and also a picture where all the characters are dressed up as . . . Maids?

Echoes of Time has been given a release date (for both games) of spring 2009. Here's a link for those of us who like to have a reference. Altho, a spring release is what I pretty much expected. I still haven't picked up Ring of Fates yet. The problem with Square-Enix's games is that they're too expensive. US$39.99 is too much for a DS game.

I suddenly realized that Da Robot and I seem to be the only ones interested in this game, but I'm glad it's not just me. Anyway, here's a related rumor from last week: In light of the Pollux Engine, it's speculated that Dragon Quest IX, currently a DS exclusive, will also be cross-published on the Wii. ( Source)

Double post! 2-hit combo! According to Siliconera, Echoes of Time will use preset canned phrases in order to overcome the language barriers in its worldwide online play. You can also type in your own custom phrases, but those will not be translated. So, it sounds like communication in this game may be somewhat limited. Also, GoNintendo has a bunch of new screenshots.

Yeah I think I remember hearing about the "situation speech commands before" but it's cool that they are break down the language for that as well. Here's an image that shows it in action.

Here's another video, fulfilling our weekly dose of Crystal Chronicles. It doesn't seem to show anything too exciting, but then it's in Japanese, so I can't tell what's supposed to be remarkable about it. It might be full of spoilers for all I know. I don't mind the maid outfits, but they certainly look unusual on a Yuke. I wonder when they plan on updating the North American blog with all this stuff. Especially since they announced release windows for North America and Europe.

Here's some good The Crystal Bearers news! In Echoes of Time (both versions) there will be a brand new trailer for The Crystal Bearers! There is also a FFCC soundtrack sampler that is being sent out with EoT as well. Square Enix has also sent out some old screen shots of TCB as well to remind us of what the game looks like. Source. Also here's a picture of the limited edition EoT DSi.

Very cool! I can't wait! I wonder if the soundtrack sampler will also be available outside of Japan. Nothing against the visual style in Crystal Bearers, but I'm going to miss the "cute" style from the previous games. It gave off kind of a Wizard of Oz vibe or something. I also don't really like how all of the modern Final Fantasy games are leaning towards this more realistic style. I think trying to render those characters that way just looks stupid. But then, other than Crystal Chronicles, I don't play Final Fantasy anymore anyway, so what do I care?

I think they once said that future Final Fantasy titles would be more realistic 'n all with realtime battles, while Dragon Quest sticks with the cartoony, turn-based style.
Also is that Cait Sith on the DSi?
