I like a serious story, but Sonic sometimes goes overboard with the whole "MOST EPIC OF ALL SONIC GAMES" thing.
So yeah, a cool story is good, but remove the super drama.

I seem to be the only one quite optomistic about this game. Simply because Sonic Team actually REALIZED Sonic 06 was bad. All the GC/PS2/XBOX Sonic games (for some stupid reason) became "Players Choice"/"Greatest Hits"/Whatever titles, so ST ASSUMED the fans liked them. They were smart enough to realize Sonic 06 was made of massive donkey hobo, so because of it they might be determined to make SU as good as they possibly can. Hell you might say Sonic 06 was a good thing for the series. Of course, Since Sonic Team is so damn retarded, and retards are generally excepted as being incredibly hard to teach anything.......... EDIT: Added a poll to see your general thoughts on how the game will do.

I'll say toss up. It looks good, and it could be good, and I certainly want it to be good, but the recent track record doesn't instill confidence.
It sounds like Sega wants to restore confidence in the character, so this could be an earnest effort towards that.

This will only be good if:
-There are no scripted sequences. -The entire game is as varied as it looked in the trailer. -The entire game does not play as through it were on rails (meaning more opportunities to backtrack or go off the beaten path or generally just not be forced in one direction the whole time) -Sonic's classic ball rolling attack is actually made useful with proper physics applied to it -Shadow does not appear in the game at all -The Werewolf thing is not a drastic departure from what's already there (meaning that slightly slower and more platforming oriented is as far as I'll go) -The game maintains original level design with original gimmicks and features -Not every enemy can be easily killed by just boosting through them -Eggman is the true final boss and is portrayed as a serious threat -Super Sonic is playable within the levels again -Tails and Knuckles get proper roles -Sonic (as well as other characters) keeps his mouth shut for once
Granted, some of those I'll make an exception, but this list is pretty much what I've wanted in a Sonic for longest time and never really got.

So far, it looks good to me. It's looking more like what a 3D Sonic game should look like. What I'm hoping for (and the way it's looking like) it that most of the game will be 2D platforming and there will be quick 3D parts as a reward. Hopefully, the 3D bits will be awesome like the bit when you run away from a whale in Sonic Adventure or running from the truck in Sonic Adventure 2.

This game is just awesome! And the poll question is kind of stupid. Because didn't Smash Bros. Brawl kind of save sonic? Anyway, this game is so good. It brings back memories. Agreed!

Critical receptions aside, the only Sonic game that's done badly financially is Sonic '06. So I wouldn't say he was "saved" by Brawl. Or even needed saving, really.
What he DOES need is some decent development time spent on his future games.

This one likes a bit like that. Despite looking like an odd fusion of Sonic Rivals, Sonic Rush, Sonic '06 and Sonic and the Secret Rings, it doesn't appear to exhibit any of the crappy programming problems they had... yet. Design decisions are another story, but I'm not holding my breath for that.

And i think that had more to do with releasing the game in the Wrong platform, had the game come out on the Wii or the PS2 (even the Gamecube) It would have sold a lot better besides of its crappines (Xbox360 users aren´t the kind of people who buy Sonic games and few sonic fans would invest over 599.99 dollars to play the latest game.

I found this teaser hilarious. It's a parody, just like all those Sega ads from the 90s!
