Was the explanation that simple? I was leaning to believe in that theory that she became Zero Suit Samus after taking a lot of damage or something. Before this, I never cared about how often will the Smash Ball appear.
But yeah, very original.

Boo! She's NOT her own character!
I'm not sure I like them being the same character. I guess on the bright side though, it leaves more space for Metroid characters... RIDLEY CONFIRMED!!11!11one

Awesome, another update with laser beams. This is pretty neat. Being able to throw pieces of the suit is a good idea. I wonder if you'll also be able to do that with other debris, like chunks of wood from a destroyed barrel or crate.

Aw, poor Rob. He's been holding out so much hope for the two being separate characters over the past near-year.
Anyways, dang! I'd worry about this unbalancing gameplay, but I'm sure Sakurai knows what he's doing. I'm almost starting to think that tomorrow's update will showcase Zelda's B-moves, and confirming whether or not she can become Sheik once and for all. I mean, there's already been three "will this character be playable/ her own character" answering updates in the past week, why not keep that train chugging?

AND THAT'S THE END OF THAT CHAPTER!
So I imagine Zero Suit Samus will have a Final Smash that puts her armour back on...

There HAS to be a way to start the battle as Zero Suit Samus. There's no logical reason to keeping a completely original fighter unusable unless you've used an item. What happens in tournaments, where there are no items?
"A" at Match Start for Zero Suit Samus, a la Sheik?

Good question. It would be disappointing if I had to wait for a Smash orb to play as ZSS.

I would imagine an A-Button start would do it, or potentially they could straight-up give you a choice when you start.

BLEH HEH HEH HEH! Bleck! She is NOT her own character!!!
This makes me happy. I figured it would be a transformation brought on by her Final Smash. Like Dancey said, it leaves more room for other Metroid Characters. Like Ridley.
I agree, there does have to be some way to start the game as Zero Suit Samus--especially since there will be those out there that deem Final Smashes cheap (I have a friend who's already been decrying the moves).

OK.... so I didn't get my wish....
Actually, part of me kind of expected this to happen. Still it raises many a question:
1. Will there be a way to change back? 2. What will that way be? 3. Will there be a way to play as Zamus without Final Smashing? 4. What kind of advantages would Zamus have that Samus doesn't have? 5. Will there be any other characters that have a transforming Final Smash? 6. Of all the characters they could've chosen to have a Final Smash that transforms them, why did they choose veteran Samus? 7. Is there really a point to having to resort to something as powerful as a Final Smash in order to access another character?
Also, I'm wondering what this means for the whole Zelda/Shiek shtick. Obviously you could just flit back and forth between them, but since Samus requires a Smash Ball to do that, how hard will it be to change back?
Lastly, this appears to be the fourth or fifth time that something from the FMV part of the trailer turned out to be an actual gameplay feature, and it seems that this is yet another Final Smash that doesn't particularly come from any Metroid game. The only time I remember Samus's armor getting blown off was during the death animation in Super Metroid. Not sure if this was meant to be a throwback to that, but I think I was right about other characters having weapons that are reusable by the other players, given the ability to throw around the parts of the suit.

This pleases me...I mean seriously. What's so special about Zero Suit Samus anyway? It's just another Star Fox, normal Samus knock-off. Okay, she has a whip...and a laser...
Suffice to say, the whip is kinda cool, but Sheik had one. And basiacially every other character has a laser gun, or just a regular gun (but I'm sure they might even give Snake a laser gun.)
Also, the laser gun is an item, and they might make the whip an item too.

HA! Who Called This one! Do we know what Samus's Final Smash is? Cuz I'm kinda wondering if that is what ZSuit Samus is. Watch this movie again When Samus first appears she lets out this gigantic beam then her suit falls off. ZSS is an effect of Final Smash it looks like. She could also be the effect of taking to much damage at one time. (like the dieing sequence in most if not all metroid games) This makes me wonder if Wario's bike can fail like it does in the movie. I cast Tingle in my happy moment. EDIT: Original information was incorrect
