A couple months ago, I remember seeing one of the threads on the Nsider board showing the poll results for Melee before Melee came out. And I am seeing some pattern how it affected Melee then and how it is affecting Brawl now. See if you agree or disagree.

I believe it was Sakurai's poll for Melee in Japan. A Nsider member named Algus posted it there.

Sakurai held this poll on the original Smash 64 website. But only in Japan.

The NOA version was pretty lame; they never showed the results. But I remember they had something where you typed your 3 favorite, 3 least favorite, and 3 most wanted characters for the game. I think I voted something like:
Favs--Yoshi, Ness, Kirby
Least Favs--DK, Fox, JPuff
Wanted--Pit, Wario, Mega Man

I think. It was a long time ago. What sucks more is that this time around he just said "screw the West" and only took Japanese requests. What? Not like they don't request stupid characters like Koopa Troopa, Espio and Old Man too

Both places have their fair share of bad anmd good. I know Smashboards had the poll witht he orders on it (who got first and what not). Most of the high ones were in Melee, and the lower/high ones are either in Brawl or are high on the Brawl poll (meaning their chances are good).

Arcadenik, remember Lip's weapon called the Stick (a.k.a. Lip's Stick) becoming an item in SSBM? It would either |A.| become an item again in SSBB, |B.| will be used by Lip while she is an Assist Trophy, |C.| will be used by Lip while she is a playable character, or |D.| not appear at all.

I have a feeling Lip might be an Assist Trophy. Maybe this whole AT deal is Sakurai's way of cutting corners so characters who never fought or not very major enough to be playable fighters are in the game anyway.

That's why I think Lip, Professor Kawashima, DeMille, Isaac, and even Duck Hunt Dog are likely going to end up as ATs.

Yes, but very very loosely based on a man who is very close to Nintendo. It is clear by now that Wright is a Nintendo character. The floating caricature of Kawashima is not.

Mario is based on Mario Segale, the landlord of Nintendo of America, who barged in on a meeting in the company's Redmond, Washington facility to demand an overdue rent payment.

That is a ~Fun Fiction~

He is NAMED after Mario Segali... he isn't based on him. The character had already been created in Japan as Jumpman for Donkey Kong in 1981, and he was renamed for the American release.

The name is all. The design was already done.
