That is a ~Fun Fiction~ He is NAMED after Mario Segali... he isn't based on him. The character had already been created in Japan as Jumpman for Donkey Kong in 1981, and he was renamed for the American release. The name is all. The design was already done. Haha! Well, he's an obscure character that appeared in both, full stop - that says something. He's top of the SSBM misc old character list, and not too low in the SSB list. Plus, he'd fill the robot demographic that the cast list is currently missing.

Anyways, I think a Custom Robo would be a cooler character.

I don't care about him that much, but I miust say he'd make an awesome character. Maybe Sakurai will make him. If that happens, everyone here will be using him. Along with Pit and Wario of course.

I'm actually looking forward to Meta Knight. After unlocking him in Nightmare in Dreamland, I was able to see all the awesome moves he could do. Pit on the other hand...not so much. |

Sukapon and Wario yes, but not Pit so much. Meta Knight and Pokémon Trainer are the newcomers I'm really looking forward to.
of course, Sukapon would have to BE in the game for me to play, first...come on, Sakurai, don't let me down! ;D

The Brawl poll had Sukapon appear a few times too, tho not as high as Takamaru or Diddy or those other guys.
But Diddy does, once again, kinda sell the idea that Sakurai IS making this a fan's game, moreso than Melee could ever dream of being. I mean, every last newcomer was a character that's been on record before as being highly requested. I think Sakurai even said in an interview or that letter to the NSider boards or somewhere that he knew Pit and Wario were really popular characters and that was why he decided to include them. Not on his own accord, but because of fans.
Meta Knight, like Dedede, is one of his own personal faves, and he did say something on the old Brawl site that he was more than ready to swarm the game with his own creations considering that he felt selfish doing so in Melee. But now that Nintendo and HAL aren't as directly involved, he has no problem throwing in those fighters.
Zero Suit Samus was a request I've seen in a few places, Ike was a top vote getter on the Brawl poll, Diddy was a top vote getter on the Melee and Brawl polls, and Pokemon Trainer was a popular request.
The only other heavily requested characters left are Dedede, Krystal, Ridley, Takamaru, and I guess Sukapon. Little Mac, Tom Nook, and whatever others you see a lot were requested, but definitely not that high on the polls. Then again, Sonic only got 1 printed request in the Toukoken, and we know where that's probably going...

So, pretty much Dedede, Krystal and Ridley are garrenteed. Takamaru and Sukapon are a little scetchy since they are region specific, but one might make it. Hoping for Little Mac. Make a great fighter.

I dunno, I don't remember seeing Pokemon Trainer anywhere really. I know Charizard is popular amongst certain groups of people (none that I've really seen associated directly with SSBB's web front though), so the whole Pokemon Trainer concept may have been cobbled together to appease fans of Charizard and the other Gen1 starters. Hoping for Little Mac. Make a great fighter. After seeing Petey in yesterday's update I don't think Ridley's inclusion is as "guaranteed" as we'd like it to be. I'm sure he'll play a key role in the game somehow--of that I have absolutely no doubt. But now that we know there'll be boss characters from other Nintendo games also potentially acting as bosses for Brawl, it suddenly makes more sense that Ridley would be such a Boss character, rather than playable (even though I would LOVE for him to be playable, I really would).
