Toad's neutral-special: he throws a Poison Mushroom (Super Mario Kart) Toad's side-special: he shoots spores that turn opponents into mushrooms (Super Mario RPG) Toad's up-special: he charges and jumps high (Super Mario Bros. 2) Toad's down-special: he pulls out vegetables (Super Mario Bros. 2) That Down Special is Peach's move from SSBM - so that's one down. The SMRPG move isn't anything to do with Toad. The Poison Mushroom is basically him throwing an item that exists already.... what about his other attacks? His Smash moves? His regular attacks? The only one that sounds like a good idea is the Up-Special. But that's not that different to a lot of other characters' jumps where they flash and jump high... Toad doesn't do anything. That's my point. Peach barely does anything, which is why her moves are mainly from SMB2-USA. Toad has little option but to use exactly the same moves as Peach, or have a completely invented moveset. Neither is really a good idea. Let it go. Toad MAY still appear as an Assist, but his playable chances have just been cut considerably.

Wario Woods? Do you mean the only Nintendo puzzle I can't ever conquer? Da Memoria!
Toad is more funny as a shield. Anyway, I'm glad to see Peach's famous (?) hip attack!

Toad all those Wario Woods moves, what are you talking about? He could throw Apple Bombs and Veggies, run up walls, kick people to the floor.. Good times ;D Afraid I haven't played Wario Woods. I should download a rom pick it up. No need for that. You can play it via Animal Crossing. Anyway, not very surprised to see Peach return. I think her redesigned dress looks good. Very regal (she is a princess, after all). As for Toad, I wouldn't count on him being a playable character, but I never thought he would be anyway. However, it's not impossible. Besides being in Super Mario Bros. 2 and Wario Woods, he could learn some new moves from the master in Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door.

Surely I can't be the only one who, after winning a round in Wario's Woods, makes Toad do a little dance by repeatedly kicking left and right and raising his arms? Y'know Peach's taunt for Melee was kinda taken from that game. I don't think people realize Toad did the same damn thing at the end of a round in Wario's Woods And chu, puh-leeze. There are 19 veterans and 15 newcomers. Those make uneven grids. So you throw in Sheik and Zamus, the transformations with profiles, to get 20 and 16 and a perfect square in either case. I was talking in terms of the total roster, not the starting. That thing can be uneven as all hell if it wants to

Toad could just come around and serve drinks to everybody.
(It from SM64DS's Luigi minigames).

It looks like the veteran fighters will keep every Special move and almost every other move they had from the previous SSB titles.

It's starting to look like the veterans will be largely based on their SSBM movesets. No word on Zelda's transformation yet (I personally still think Sheik is gone and replaced with Zamus), but yeah... for the most part.
Kind of a shame that. I was hoping Peach, Samus, Fox etc. would have more moves based on the copious number of games released in the last 6 years.

Sakurai can give characters moves that originally belonged to other characters. Ice Climbers' neutral-special came from Topis pushing ice around. Ness's PK Fire came from Paula. Bowser's up-special came from the 7 Koopalings inside their shells and moving around in SMW. Zelda's special moves except down-special came from Link's spells in OOT (I believe Zelda's Din's Fire is more based on the Fire spell in Zelda II). So it is not a stretch to give Toad a mushroom-related enemy's move to turn opponents into mushrooms. And what's wrong with completely invented movesets? C. Falcon and Fox got by just fine.

C Falcon and Fox are main characters for their series, so they needed to get in. Toad, who's fading away from the Mario series quicker than you can say 'playable Waluigi, Daisy and Birdo, Toad is just the host', does not.

Toad is in the Party Games, and he remains playable in most sports titles. He's in Kart Wii as well. The only real "screwjob" he got recently was being left out of Power Tennis. Seriously... he's even in the intro video. That's just laziness

I like Peach's new dress, myself. It's quite regal. I remember when I first saw Peach in Melee, and that was one of the key eye-catchers in terms of the attention to detail that was put into Melee to me. It happened again today. ^_^

Besides if Toad was a playable character, Peach would be using the Toad dressed in red.

That reminds me, I saw a pink-themed toad in the center of that plaza while playing Paper Mario on my VC a week ago (and no, it wasn't Toadette). I went over to talk to him and he said something like "YOU MISSED THE MARKET TRY AGAIN NEXT TIME!" and vanished. Can anyone tell me wtf was up with that? That's the first time I've seen a pink Toad that wasn't Toadette, and I've owned a copy of Paper Mario since it came out.
