In Super Smash Bros. Brawl: The Subspace Emissary, it’s rumored that there will be boss appearances.
This time, I’d like to introduce the first boss you encounter: Petey Piranha!He... He’s huge!Too intense!Locked in the iron cages he holds are the princesses, Peach and Zelda. He looks angry. Wh-what is he doing? He’s attacking with the iron cages! You can save either Zelda or Peach, depending on which cage you damage more and subsequently break. What will happen to the one you don’t save?!

So, two things:
1. Petey as a nonplayable boss confirmed! Some people were still maintaining that Petey could be playable... I think this pretty much seals that he isn't. 2. This update also seems to lean towards Subspace Emissary being a single path that branches depending on the choices you make in-game, instead of having a slightly different path depending on which character you choose at the beginning. In other words, Subspace Emissary will always start you off as Kirby. : [

hooray! hopefully this means K. Rool will be a boss and not a playable character.
Ridley makes a lot more sense this way, too.

Another good update, except for ONE THING: Story is set in stone. It branches, but you play as certain characters during certain points in the story. So they went all Sonic Heroes on us. It makes sense, I guess, but not being able to pick a character and stick with them sounds lame.

I knew PP would be a boss, because of his size being larger than Peach and Zelda. Ridley is more likely at becoming a boss than a playable character or an Assist Trophy, in my opinion.

Well, maybe you can select your paths with more freedom later? At least there's the concept of different routes. I love the use Nintendo always gives to the verb "rumor" . From what I've understood through the years, it means: "it will happen, but we won't state it because otherwise it won't be that exciting".

It is kinda like Story Mode more than Adventure Mode. And just because Petey is a boss, dosen't mean he is not playable. Though, I wonder what the next boss will be? Maybe Space Piarates from Planet Zebes.

Shouldn't Petey Piranha have the Mushroom symbol?

Read the first sentence where Sakurai says... "In Super Smash Bros. Brawl: The Subspace Emissary, it’s rumored that there will be boss appearances." What do you think by him saying rumors? How does he know?

Shouldn't Petey Piranha have the Mushroom symbol? Hey! .. yeah, he should. I'm sure it's a mistake that'll get fixed later, like Samurai Goroh being misspelled "Goro". EDIT: Snuka, you're reading too much into things. For crying out loud, he confirms that Petey is a boss in the very next sentence!

This confirms that the Subespace Emissary will have an incredible replay value. Beating it again a again to pick different decisions and levels.

Bosses, storyline-defining-actions, oooh this game just keeps getting better and better.
The background behind the character model has a pinkish gradient rather than blue. That probably has some small significance. Do you think bosses WILL be playable, but only in 1-on-3 team battles or a special Boss mode or something?
What DOES happen to the princess you don't save!?

I'm pretty sure that one princess will stay and protect the stadium, while the other will go on and either |1.| find Mario, |2.| warn other Nintendo heroes, or |3.| chase the Halberd.
