I would suggest something less exiting than branching storylines, the Princess that you save first, helps you finish the battle defeating Petey and rescuing the other princess

Does this remind anyone else of Giant DK? I suspect bosses will be like fighting him, except the AI is smarter. Also, Giant DK was just DK only giant, you thing Petey could be a character, but this is just a giant version of him? No? Me neither.  |

One possibility is that the princess you don't save goes onto a new area and has to start her own party by herself...lots of strategy involved in that, now that you think of it. Neat!

Petey Pirannah is the most badass thing in SSBB, though expect to hear the same from me with other bosses!  Will there be different bosses depending on the character you play as? |

I still like the "build a roster" idea. Picking up characters as you go and picking from your party for different stages sounds ultra-sexy. It explains why Fox was on the DK level, why you start with Mario/Kirby, and why picking a Princess is so important. If you KO a character on accident, do they leave your party?  That gives insane potential for endings, depending on who you and who you don't have |

The more that's being revealed about the Subspace Emissary, the more seizures I'm having because of it's awesomeness! Badass Petey, actual storyline, and universes intertwined! SSBB SUPER DUPER FTW!!!!11!!1!one ;D ;D ;D
