I just realised that with so many Smash Fans around the world, Sakurai should release Super Smash Bros DS. Characters: Mario, Link , Kirby, Luigi, Samus, Fox, Pikachu, Peach, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Pit, Zelda, Wario, Meta Knight, Snake, King .K. Rool, Plautena, Sonic, Bomberman, Pokemon Tranier, Diddy Kong, Zero Suit Samus, Ganondorf, Ridley, Captain Falcon, King Dedede, Ice Climberss, Mr Game and Watch, Megaman, Bowser, Sheik, Ness, Lucas 33 characters, the DS couldn't get too big. Then Brawl would be nothing.

And how would it work? There's no analogue stick on the DS, removing the "smash" element.

Ah, your right. Though there must be some way. Maybe you can put a case on the DS on which has everything you need to play. It could be included with the game. Or it could be on the revoltion after the Ds. Probley not.

33 characters on a DS version? Yeah... no. However, lack of analogue stick? Says hi.

The "Four Kinds of Control" and "Smash Attacks" updates prove that SSBDS is possible.
You can play Brawl with just the WiiMote alone and it has no analogue stick.

Yeah, but we don't even know if that control scheme works yet. It might be far and away the worst option of the lot.
Don't get me wrong, it would be great to see a Smash game on the DS. I just doubt we will. And it would be nowhere near as big as SSBM/B, so 33 characters is pretty much a no.
Unless my dream comes true, and they do it all with 2D sprites ala the Capcom fighters ;D

Seriously, too many changes should be done to adapt Smash Bros to a little handheld and it would result in a butchered version of everything, and a different game. Graphics, detail, sound, visual range, controls... everything.
Jump Super Stars is the best example of a fighting game made exclusively and exploiting the capabilities of the DS. I doubt Smash would be something like that, and if it is, then it wouldn't be Smash.

Super Smash Bros DS has been discussed since before the DS's release. We had no idea about Brawl at the time, so we would've settled for a remake of the first SSB, but with added modes and characters.

This could actually work, you know. They could use 2D sprites instead of polygons, therefore leaving more space on the tiny DS chip for characters. And, instead of the analogue stick, they could use the D pad! You guys also forgot there is a TOUCH SCREEN! That could be used to move your character around. IT COULD WORK.

I don't think you'll have to limit anything. Maybe space though, but my idea was to have an expansion pac in the fiorm of a GBA cart.
The DS is about as powerful as a N64. So, it's possible to frecreate the game's sound and graphics. Also, I assum that the Wii Remote works fine. It has probobly been play tested alot to make sure it works.

There's always the GBA slot... I guess it's possible that they'll make someday an "analog stick peripheral" for games that require it.
Graphical-wise, I guess it should look like Super Mario 64 DS. And it could probably replace some of the characters in favor of more recent ones, or even the other way around (adding a plumber Wario for example).

Mario 64 DS proved that Touch Screen movement was lame. And 3D is actually better than 2D for characters with complex moment. That's why NewSMB had the brothers in 3D than 2D.

An animated 3D character only needs a 3D model, a texture and the data for the animation (which is basically moving around the points of the model). 2D characters usually consist of dozens of images, which is often bigger in filesize, not to mention considerably more difficult and time consuming for the artist.

If Smash were ever made for a handheld, it should control like a Kirby game, with double-tapping the D-pad in place of quickly tapping the analog stick.
Otherwise, there are enough buttons for every function.
In terms of characters, they could have Pit with a more classic look and plumber Wario. Maybe even Marth with his design from FE1 (rather than 3) and another character that represents handhelds better (Muddy!).

Yeah, I agree with you robbypants, For the controls, and maybe lower the résolutions of characters to save space, nah?
