Now that Mario got himself a new Down special, could this mean that others, especially Zelda will too?
Not just that, but this is the Zelda from Twilight Princess, where Sheik wasn't present.
Moreover, Samus just got the transformation treatment.
Thoughts?

I don't think Sheik will be removed.
To me, the Samus transformation is different. It's a side-effect of a Super Smash and not a regular move. And I don't see why it would have any influence over Sheik's appearance in this game.
Secondly, while the design of Zelda is from Twilight Princess, she is still representing the entire Legend of Zelda series. I mean, they gave Mario FLUDD, but he still has SMB1 fireballs.
When people talk of Melee characters getting dropped, the characters are either clones (such as Young Link and Pichu) or there is a possible swap (Lucas for Ness). Sheik is a popular character with no one to swap out for. They have asked for designs for Sheik (which does not guarantee anything), and personally I think a Twilight Princess style Sheik would look awesome.
I suppose one possibility is that Sheik and Zelda become separate characters.

Not quite the same thing. SMB1 Mario and SMS Mario are still both the same person. OoT Zelda and TP Zelda are two seperate characters. As much as I liked Sheik, I find the thought of TP Zelda becoming Sheik kind of... unsettling. So I do kinda hope Zelda has a new down B move instead.

None of Zelda's moves are in Twilight Princess. You'd have to throw out Din's Fire, Nayru's Love, and Farore's Wind too.

That's a bit different, since those spells aren't character-specific anyway. Sheik is more a trait than a skill, and it's something that was very much specific to OoT Zelda's persona. Those spells were also used by Link, and were given to him by fairies. So they're obviously not specific to any one character.

Here's an idea, they use Sheik as Zelda's final smash!
Bowser was given the Giga Bowser transformation.
Either Zelda will turn into Sheik, or become Sheik after the final smash (such as Samus).

The reflecting move for Zelda can become Down + B, and Neutral B could be a new type of move.

Here's an idea, they use Sheik as Zelda's final smash! Bowser was given the Giga Bowser transformation. Either Zelda will turn into Sheik, or become Sheik after the final smash (such as Samus). Then that would really make Sheik a pointless addition, don't you think? The only differential we have between Zero Suit Samus and Sheik is that they're accessed differently. ZSS, otherwise, is basically identical to Sheik (being faster, but losing a lot of power and weight). However, so far as this "Mario getting his Down B replaced" thing goes...well. Mario has, certainly, but keep in mind that we've seen ALL of Link's Special moves, and none of them have any drastic change from Melee. Link and Mario are on equal footing, so just the fact that Mario got an update doesn't necessarily imply that everyone will. If you think Sheik will be axed from Brawl, that's fine, but this particular trail of logic is flawed.

Well, there's the possability that Shiek and Zelda become seperate characters, which I REALLY hope is the case!

It won't be a clone, Shiek's moveset from SSBM was different from Zelda's, remember?
And I love it how were always on at the same time! ;D

Personally I hope Sheik is axed. She has no business being in Brawl, given her oh so amazing one-hit wonder appearance. Spend the polygons on someone more deserving, like Tetra or Tingle.

...or Vaati.
But it's confirmed that Sheik is in.... somewhat. I can't find the interview where the questions were asked... but they were. I'm sure somebody here knows about it.
Thing with Sheik is... she/he better not be a transformation... because we all know that was a failed experiment. It seemed like a good idea at first... build up damage with the fast and combo crazy sheik and then get the KO with Zelda's hard hitting magic attacks. There was a problem though. Sheik is god. Zelda sucks. So there's NO reason to ever pick Zelda (I guess to recover... but still, you're just going to switch back to Sheik as soon as possible). This doesn't apply to just the "Top teir" players... the competitions... the hardcore... this is clearly obvious to newcomers and veterans alike... Sheik > Zelda. No questions asked. Do I want that kind of thing in Brawl? Heck no.
Now with Zero Suit Samus, it'll probably be different. She can't transform into her whenever she wants... she needs to get the smash ball. The only problem I have with that is.... is Samus going to be BETTER without her power suit?! It wouldn't make sense but it seems likely. I have no way to tell yet.
The transformation thing was a good idea... especially for Zelda since she was in disguise as Sheik. But... in reality though... if there's such an unbalance, it's not going to work. If Sheik is in, (and from what I hear... she/he is) they'll be seperate characters.

It could be possible that Sheik is an Assist Trophy.

Personally I don't want ANY of Melee's characters to be removed.
