What advantages does Pichu have over Pikachu. He's lighter, but really, there isn't much advantage at all. Every special attack you do, you cause yourself damage.

Then don't use the special attacks. His regular attacks are the same strength as Pikachu's. That, plus the heightened speed makes him better than Pikachu in some ways.
Still, if every character has a different flavor, then Pichu probably has little reason to stay anyway. Unless they replace him with the Pichu Bros. or a Plusle/Minun team or something.

If they choose Pachirisu from Diamond & Pearl, then it could inherit Pichu's stats, and get new or old moves. But since their basis are similar (being electric rodents), I'd rather not have any of those cloned at all.
Pachirisu's move, Last Resort, could work like Wario Waft in the sense that it builds power over time.

What advantages does Pichu have over Pikachu. He's lighter, but really, there isn't much advantage at all. Every special attack you do, you cause yourself damage. Normal attacks do damage to itself too. But Pichu has a much stronger Foward Smash than Pikachu, it doesn't have the same range, and it hurts itself, but the power alone makes up for it. And Pichu's up smash out classes Pikachu's up smash in every way. Air neutral+A and Air back+A may also be stronger hits too... using these two moves is crucial to Pichu's game because they don't hurt it. Besides it's speed, there really aren't any other advantages. Almost every move of Pichu's is worse than Pikachu's and damages itself.

Pichu, for the most part, does about the same damage Pikachu does, and is smaller and faster. While still usable, he is a bit underpowered if items aren't on. His Foward A has a terrably range, as with all of his attacks. His thunder doesn't knock foes away. His up A ait doesn't have the same sweetspot that can kill foes, and his attacks lack some impact.

Hahaha. Can't we just have a playable Wobbuffet and be done with it? ;D That would make me LAWL! I'm maining Wobbeffet On another forum, thwere were these hardcore (and I mean hardcore) that were sad if Pichi was out becuase there wouldn't be a second generation pokemon. There way, there would be on from each gen. Looks like 1st is still the best

Pichu is incredible for specializing in item use. His size allows him to avoid attacks faster characters like Fox and Captain Falcon have trouble dodging, and his speed gives him a leg up over other small characters, like Kirby and Ness. I've mentioned this before, but I have a friend who mains in Pichu; he's on an even level with me when I use Falco, and I'm pretty good if I do say so myself. Like Smashchu said, though, if you like to turn off the items, then Pichu loses his main strength--but he's still a formidable fighter. The same edge he has in getting weapons can be used in combat, so the only damage that he really builds up is self-inflicted.
With Samurai Goroh out of the playable scene (nerrrrr...) I really would like to see Black Shadow in. If this means cloning Captain Falcon to get him in, I'd be all for it! F-Zero deserves to have more than one character representing it.

Pichu's my main, actually. I find him to be the best character in the Melee roster. The damage he takes from attacking isn't really significant since it's such a small amount (from non-specials, anyway) and he's so hard for anyone to hit.

I actually found Ganondorf to be my best character in Melee, He was stronger than Capt. Falcon.

The only thing I'll miss if Pichu goes is his super-cute taunt move ;D Especially when he's wearing the pilot goggles! YES!
