E FOR ALL
An event that started today in Los Angeles and will continue through until tomorrow evening. People can purchase tickets and freely play the Brawl demo.
So what's so cool about this? Well, some of the folks going are HARDCORE about Smash ( ) and so are searching for answers to the really big questions: wavedashing, attack changes, ATs, hints to secret fighters, and other stuff that the journalists are too wussy to post!
So enjoy my thread mining once more, because here's a growing list of E for All Discoveries... (feel free to add; I implore you!!)
Characters
Bowser -- Said to be "top-tier" now. His attacks are much faster, his size larger, his weight heavier, and his Koopa Claw and Bowser Bomb attacks have become very powerful. Also, he can Up B out of his shield, like Melee.
Peach -- Said to be "nerfed" since Melee. She lost a lot of power in her Smash attacks, particularly her DSmash. Also, her recovery has more lag (i.e. no more float cancelling) and she is heavier overall. Her Parasol is smaller and doesn't lift her as high. Also, her Peach Bomber is hella-weak. Pros say she can still play the same way.
Sonic -- Said to have a "steep learning curve." His attacks are weak, his speed is more a detriment than an aid, and he has very loose controls. His Spring can be destroyed (and so that means it must stay around for a bit after he uses it, I figure). His Down B keeps you place; only his Side B lets you move. His B can be charged, and is literally just the Homing Attack. It will attack the ground in front of him if there are no enemies in direct range.
Mario -- Said to be mostly the same, except his attacks are sometimes slower this time around. Mario Tornado is his Dair, but it only works when you're fully airborne (?) His Cape now gives knockback. And can I just say the holy crap, FLUDD is AWKWARD? It stays on your back and just looks sooo out of place.
Samus -- Bomb Jumps are harder to do, but her Screwball is back to SSB64 mechanics. Dying as Zero Suit brings you back as Zero Suit, and there is no trick to start a match as her a la Sheik. Also, Samus's Charge Shot was nerfed.
Fox -- Supposedly nerfed as well; he is much slower. He can jump out of his Reflector, which I guess is good for some people? Blaster remains the same. Pros say he can still play the same way.
Yoshi -- His Up B does NOT flutter; he just does a short hop upwards while using it, and can continue to use the attack in midair after a short fall. In other words, Yoshi can slowly descend/move horizontally (albeit awkwardly) now by tossing eggs. Said to be weakest character shown.
Link -- Pretty much more powerful overall, on top of the changes we already knew. Some are saying "top-tier," which is about damn time.
Ike -- Plays really slow, but has immense power. Some equate him to Melee Ganondorf. His Down B is Counter which may reflect projectiles back at the opponent; his Forward B is a dashing slash, similar to Falco Phantasm. His A attacks are a cross between Link's and Marth's. Said to be best for multiplayer as opposed to 1v1.
Diddy -- Dash A is the cartwheel. His aerial attacks are pretty strong. His Side B is basically a flying somersault forwards, so if he catches you he'll latch on and start mauling.
Pit -- Plays similar to Link, but with flight. His Down B?...The Mirror Shield! ;D It reflects oncoming attacks, physical AND special. Characters are sent into recoil after hitting it physically, while Pit is free to move about (once the shield is away, of course). Also, he will sometimes yell "Get back!" when using the attack. Glory be, the Sacred Treasures are all intact! Light Arrows are laser-speed, like Kid Icarus. Supposedly his Side B can be spun longer by holding B (dubbed "Whirling Halo" by some fans already) and will block incoming projectiles. His attacks have a large range.
Kirby -- His Dash A is now the Top Spin he had with the Yo-Yo Ability in Kirby Superstar (basically a headstand spin, like a breakdancer)
All -- All characters can no longer L-Cancel or Wavedash, meaning they probably were glitches. Also, gameplay is a lot slower and characters move more slowly in the air overall. Attacks in general are laggier. You can grab the edge even when you are facing the wrong way. Also, air-dodges work on momentum now, like said earlier in the topic. Weights are very pronounced this time around; you will KNOW who the heavy and light weight characters are.
Final Smashes
Ike--Similar to Aether but Ike catches the character in a fury of blades in midair as he catches the sword. Each slash ends in a massive explosion of fire. You MUST hit B again after activation to execute the attack. At the end of his aerial strike, Ike slams them down into the ground with a lot of power and a burst of flames. Can hit multiple opponents.
Mario--Leaves a trail of fire if used along the ground. Wonder if it burns...
Link--Ending slash doesn't send opponent too far, but Link DOES dash forwards to hit the opponent for the initial slash. Has the potential to miss if nobody is directly across from Link.
Fox--Fox leaps off screen and Landmaster just kinda SPLATS on the stage. When it's almost over it starts flashing white, then turns into a wireframe and teleports away.
Zero Suit Samus--The radius for her Crystal Flash is tiny, but if the opponent is RIGHT ON TOP OF YOU it is an instant KO. Samus will shrink down into a ball of light, then reemerge with her Power Suit full intact.
Meta Knight--Confirmed to be an instant KO for those caught in it.
Pikachu--Very slow and weak. Supposedly not even worth using.
DK--Does no damage unless you clap. People were just sitting there waiting for their FS to run out as DK because they had no idea what to do.
Meta Knight--Does 50% damage so it doesn't always auto-KO, just when opponent is at x% damage. Zooms in when you do hit a person.
Peach--Can be avoided if you are not on the ground. In one video, Pit was flying off stage and did not fall asleep from the attack. This may also summon items on top of the peaches.
Bowser--The Giga Bowser form is exactly the same as Melee's. It lasts roughly 10 seconds.
Pikachu--The FS is fully controllable, meaning Pikachu flies around like a laser pointer at his opponents. You can slow him down as well, keeping the Volt Tackle is mostly the same location as one big evil ball of power.
-You can not only beat the Final Smash out of a person but you can cancel it too. In one video, Pit kept throwing out his arms to summon Palutena but Link kept stopping him by shooting with a Super Scope until the Smash Ball left him. Interesting...
-Not all Final Smashes can be activated in the air. Yoshi's can, for example, but Pit's cannot.
Items
-Cracker Launcher looks odd to control; your character stumbles back and forth while firing up at an angle. You can jump with it, of course
-Golden Hammer makes your character spaz out, seriously. Very, very powerful.
-When characters grab a Super Mushroom, they pose as they grow in size. Mario punches the air like old Mario games; Sonic kinda spins; and Pit throws out his chest. Just a few...
-Lightning Bolt: Descends slowly, and shrinks all other players when touched. May backfire and shrink you instead, or make all other players Super.
-You can push Crates as well as stand on them. This also means Crates on Wheels go flying around really easy.
-Warp Star much, much weaker.
-Starman confirmed to return. No. Duh.
-Trophy Stand can be thrown at enemies and items in Adventure Mode to "capture" them as trophies
-Lip's Stick is back, works exactly the same way
-You can move while firing a Fire Flower
-Curry makes you constantly breath fire, not just when you attack. The fire breath radius is huge as well. Lasts as long as the Starman.
-In one video, Samus gets dazed just for landing on something. What did it...?
-Bob-ombs will show a flame at the end of the fuse when lit now. Can't recall if they did that at all in Melee...
-You can get a Party Ball full of Warp Stars or Bumpers now.
-Springboard: You can toss it for damage or hop on top for massive jumps.
-Deku Nut: Explodes on opponents like a Bob-omb, but on the ground the flash it creates will daze them instead.
-Flammable Crate: In a lot of videos, but people were missing it for some reason. Similar to a normal crate but metal and marked with a yellow flammable warning sign. Explodes when destroyed.
-Screw Attacks attach to you/are worn like Bunny Hoods this time around, disappearing after a short amount of time.
Assists
-QFT: "Some... spider robot thing fired lasers at us. It looked like there was a fat ugly child operating it, but I didn't get a good look since it didn't last long." POKEY FTW! ;D
-Saki (CONFIRMED): Jumps up and down platforms firing guns at the players. When they get close, he slashes them.
-RUMORED: Tails He grabs you from falling off the edge
-Mr. Resetti lasts a very, very, very long amount of time
-Little Mac is a very fast and changeable assist. He will run towards the nearest opponent and pummel them for a bit, then dash away. Sometimes he finishes with an uppercut. Not very long or heavy damage, but high knockback.
-Jill will drive her Dozer back and forth and may or may not drive over the edge. She deals hefty combo damage.
-Lyn will appear right next to the opponent if they are on the ground.
-New Pokemon: Bonsly, Latias, Latios, Palkia
-Bonsly runs around. You have to touch him for an effect--no idea yet.
-Latias takes off and clears the screen diagonally, tackling people.
-Latios takes off and clears the screen horizontally, tackling people.
-Returning Pokemon: Entei, Staryu
Stages
-Delfino Plaza includes the area before the Pianta Statue as a battleground. Also, you can fight under the shallow water at the island areas.
-Norfair music is a Super Metroid medley. It's the Title Theme and Credits/Samus's Theme mixed together.
-Norfair includes: rising lava; lavafalls from the top of the screen; lava tidal waves that submerge ALL platforms; blue bubble doors that appear and open as free platforms... when the tidal wave strikes, everyone must jump inside before it closes to save themselves from certain DOOM!
-Pokemon Stadium 2's Flying mode will try and blow you in all directions off the stage. Electric mode is conveyor belts with high speed shooting off either end.
-Smashville's spectators change each time you play, with Nook wearing various outfits. The humans react to the battle, sometimes screaming, cheering, or sweating with anticipation. Items float by on balloons as well.
-The Stage Select screen shows the funky stadium Mario fights Primids in as the background
-Bridge of Eldin has random Twilight Princess enemies traversing it throughout the battle.
Costumes
-Mario has Waluigi, Brown/Green, Fire Mario, Wario, Blue/Red, and Black/White
-Bowser has a BLACK SKIN w/ WHITE AND GOLD SHELL costume
-Peach has a Dark Red costume and keeps her old costumes as well. The Daisy outift is now orange and yellow, and Peach remains mostly the same otherwise (her hair gets slightly more orange).
-Fox has a Wolf O'Donnell-esque costume (darker fur, red scouter, grey clothes)
-Samus has a Dark Suit (MP2) costume, Fusion Suit costume, and a slightly off Gold (rusty?) color
-Zamus gets a Black Zero Suit with one costume
-Diddy has Green, Light Blue, Purple and Pink. No Yellow?
-Sonic's costumes are all varying shades of blue, similar to Pika's being all shades of yellow. Also receives one or two dark blue costumes supposedly with different colored spike highlights. His wristbands and shoes will change colors with his outfits, primarily, and the design will sometimes change (for example, his yellow costume is a lighter blue with yellowish shoes ala Shadow)
-Yoshi keeps the same 6 costumes from Melee. Bummer... His egg shield and Egg Roll, however, do match the color now. Not the Egg Toss, but 2/3 ain't too shabby.
-DK gets Green, Red, Dark Blue, and White
-Link has Red, Blue, Gold, Lavender (Stopwatch!), and Dark Link (all black tunic, black skin, red eyes)
-Ike gets Deep Red, Grey Blue, Green, and Marth's(!!!) colors. His cape is a lighter shade of the main tunic.
-Meta Knight gets Green, Red, Grayish, Gold, Bright Pink, and Black with red eyes.
-Can I just say Dark Link looks BAD-ASS?
-Pit's chlamys (see? I took Classics courses ) changes colors w/ his wings: Red and White; Black and Black with black hair (of course >.>); Blue and Sky Blue, Yellow and White
-Pikachu has his Red Ash Ketchum hat as well as Pichu's goggles. He also wears a Green bandana that looks like the hero from Emerald's.
Music
-Halberd: Gourmet Racing
-Bridge of Eldin: Zelda Main Theme; The Darkworld (;D)
-Battlefield: Menu 1; Battlefield
-Norfair: Metroid Main Theme (title sequence?); Samus Aran's Theme
-Lylat Cruise: Star Fox 64 Main Theme
-Castle Siege: Fire Emblem Attack
Misc.
-Most characters get a black and red costume, many with red eyes. Does this have something to do with Subspace Emissary?
-One of Pit's taunts is where he raises his bow above his head in one hand and a "CHING!" noise like metal is heard.
-Not all characters can crawl. On that same hand, wall-jumps are back.
-Footstool Jump is really hard to pull off.
-Wiimote controls are difficult
-Classic Controller controls are really loose
-Adventure Mode videos show: DK and Diddy take on Koopas and Goombas who stole their bananas; Pit finds an unconscious Mario and two tackle Primids in Skyworld; Kirby and Peach (or Zelda...) fly up to fight the Halberd but are blown away by a careening Arwing (interlocking stories? ); Diddy confronts Bowser about the stolen banana hoard; Wario kidnaps the princess that Kirby DIDN'T save
-Characters can now swim on levels like Isle Delfino. When the hit the water, they float to the surface and can tread on it. Supposedly Sonic wears a lifejacket
Sonic--1. Backflip and arms crossed; 2. Top Spin in place; 3. Looks off to side with body turned and wags finger
--Sonic's two known Victory Taunts are the backflip and a pose where he holds out an Emerald and talks to the audience
Zamus--1. flip gun into the air and catch; 2. twirl like a ballerina and spin the whip; 3. check her gun and shoot a bit of the whip
--Peach's Intro: There's a twirl of sparkles and Peach spins out of thin air covering herself with her parasol. She pulls it up over her head, smiles, and folds it up.
