For some of you, you know what Wavedashing is. And you probably know that it was greatly used in tournamnts by "pros". Well, for as long as I can remember there has been constant flamewars between the casual players and the competative players. Well, looks like it might be over. Check this out. Air dodge has momentum now.

Wow... no more wavedashing? It was a glitch to begin with so no surprise it is fixed in Brawl.

Thanks for that Smashchu. I never really understood much about wavedashing (just saw a YouTube video of it) but it's nice to know that it has been removed.
Did anyone here actually use it in SSBM?

Since I'm not an expert in wavedashing, what I don't get is: what would be different (in that animation) if wavedashing were possible to perform?
I think I managed to do it with Luigi, who as far as I know is the easiest character to perform it with.
If the wavedashing mechanics never were intentional in Melee, then this means the programmers outdid themselves.

I don't see how air dodging having it's own momentum means wavedashing isn't possible.
I'd like to see what happens when somebody air dodges INTO the ground. Wouldn't the momentum from the air dodge push them along the ground... thus, creating a wavedash? Unless momentum gets ZEROED out when the hit the ground... it will still exist. If not, it will be the same deal. The less traction the character has, the better their wavedash will be.
Personally... I'd like it removed. It makes matches look silly. Like the programmers animated all the characters running and walking for no reason.

Like the programmers animated all the characters running and walking for no reason. You wavedash by airdodgeing into the ground very quickly and repeat. The idea is to get the momentum. With this, people will go up when they try to air dodge. They can technically still do it when they fall, but it won't be effective.

I don't see why they would go UP if they air dogded in a downard direction though.
I like how air dodging has it's own momentum (or rather, it doesn't cancel out previous momentum)... but I still don't see how that will stop affect wavedashing.

From what I understand people can no longer jump and immediately air dodge towards the ground to do the wave dash because they would just air dodge while jumping upwards. Or something. I dunno, we'll know soon because of E for All anyway.

For some of you, you know what Wavedashing is. What is wavedashing? I've never heard of the term before, so can someone fill me in.

Wavedashing is a move that tournament/hardcore players use to move around a stage really quickly. It is done by using the midair dodge . . . it's something like that. Here is a Youtube Video. The dummies guide to wavedashing in SSBM.

For some of you, you know what Wavedashing is. What is wavedashing? I've never heard of the term before, so can someone fill me in. Lightly press the jump button to perform a short hop while holding the control stick diagonally down in whatever direction you wish to go. Right after you jump press R/L to air dodge into the ground, causing you to slide across the floor. Repeat. For some characters this is faster than running and can be used to dodge attacks. It can be useful in many situations, but isn't necessary to play.

I've actually come across some sane competitive gamers on the net. Ones that actually say that wavedashing doesn't make you good. I wonder if they'll take shfflc (shuffle) out too.

If you're not much of a wavedasher, then yeah, you're not going to understand how this change gets rid of wavedashing. Midair dodging in Melee changes the direction that the character is moving in. Jump up, midair dodge immediately into the ground, canceling the upward movement. In brawl, it appears that you can't change the direction of the character in the middle of a fall anymore. That means the only possible way a wavedash might be possible is if the character is already falling diagonally into the ground and then the player midair dodges close to the ground. Even if that's possible, all it's good for is to cancel the landing animation. Wavedashing is definitely out.

Haha! The game loses "depth" because a glitch has been fixed? Priceless.
