I'm happy to see Mac and Punch-Out finally receive some attention in Smash Bros. It's a perfect fit in my eyes.

I'm just glad Little Mac appeared in 3D! The fact that he's as short as he is, and that Sakurai paid attention to that, is flippin' hilarious. Of course Mac could have worked out as a playable character, but so could Goroh or Lyn or Jill. And I honestly expected Goroh, Jill and Little Mac would be playable at some point, but I got proven wrong. *shrugs* Oh well! The only things that disappoint me about the game so far are the sprite Assists (though I recognize their necessity to prevent lag) and Sonic's Final Smash being cheap as all hell. To a much lesser extent, Goroh being an Assist Trophy bugs me a bit also, but I've had so long to get accustomed to that news that it's really not a big deal anymore. I can always hold out for SSB4. Also, I love this screenshot, it makes me roffle:

SSB4? Don't hold your breath. I read somewhere that Sakurai planned for SSBM to be the last SSB game but Nintendo practically begged him to make SSB3. Seems to me he is sick of making SSB games.

Like Nintendo will stop making Smash Brothers sequels just because Sakurai don't wanna do 'em no more.

BZZT! Nintendo was making Melee Online for the Wii, with NO NEW ADDITIONS. Sakurai was like "Helllllll no, foo!" and when he was asked to be director, he hopped on it faster than a fat kid on a cone of ice cream. Smash is Sakurai's "baby." He'll always love it. Also, the Mac being small thing is pretty damn funny. Nice to see some wit thrown in there, I agree. But it is still disheartening that so many characters got deconfirmed in the process. I suppose that it is just as good, because, similar to Pit getting a Melee trophy, we can see that they are still REMEMBERED, just not PLAYABLE. Yet, one game down the line, Pit did become playable and I'm sure some of these folks will too. At least we can pause and take snapshots and PRETEND they're playable, right?

With an average of approximately 1.07 exclamation marks per sentence in his Dojo updates, it certainly doesn't look like he's sick of the Super Smash Bros.

Actually, I think the myths behind SSBB have gotten a bit muddled here. Of course he left Nintendo and HAL to pursue his own projects - and how could he do that? SSBM was the biggest selling Gamecube game... AND it was a launch title (first 6 months = launch, btw).
He poured so much love into it, and it showed. He's doing exactly the same this time, only he's making a definitive Smash Bros. In an ideal world, he will leave it open-ended for updates over the years - his team can keep working away while he goes back to the projects he's been planning.
BUT it is true he was roped into SSBB by Nintendo in order to prevent the SSBM-Online that was planned. And what has he done? Best bits from Melee, best bits from SSB64... a ton of new stuff... online multiplayer... it don't get much better than this, guys!
PS. I'm very much looking forward to all the snapshot taking ;D

Actually, Brawl may ACTUALLY be Sakurai's last Smash Bros. game! However, he knows that if he isn't there, Nintendo & Hal Labs are just going to try to rehash Brawl, without new characters, just like they tried with Melee. So Sakurai made sure that Nintendo & Hal Labs COULDN'T by adding fighters desired for Smash Bros. that are NOT owned by Nintendo!!! To rehash Brawl for WiiToo with all the same fighters, Nintendo would need Konami and Sega approval, and if they don't add more fighters, AND lose Snake and Sonic, then the fans will ignore Smash 4, and Nintendo can't afford to lose a franchise as big as Smash. Sakurai loves Smash as much as we do, he doesn't want to see it dead, so he is making sure Nintendo HAS to improve it for Number 4.

There will never be a "last Smash Bros game".
As long as Nintendo keeps creating epic games, the will always be room for Smash Bros.

Nintendo can just... y'know... make new characters and program it themselves with his old team.
It won't have the same soul, but if you took the entire team behind Raiders of the Lost Ark and remade the movie without a Spielberg it's still Indiana Jones. It's all still there. Just...different. They could manage a fourth. They're going to have to HAVE a fourth. Or else.

Nah, they could just think up another franchise that acts as a Nintendo mash-up, like the forgotten Nintendo RPG or Nintendo Racer threads.

Nintendo Racer is an idea I'd love. But not with generic karts or anything... I'd want Link on Epona, DK on Rambi, Kirby on a Warp Star... I'd play that until my thumbs wore down to the bone.

I thought that if HAL was up to it, they could give a Kirby Air Ride sequel simply entitled "Air Ride", with various Nintendo characters riding around on hoverboards themed after their franchises, and beating up their respective enemy drones with various special attacks. It could also improve on all the better elements of Kirby Air Ride.
