Update #139: Classic

I expect the silly bonus scores are still in the game, they're just not shown in that particular screenshot. After all, those scores ARE Smash Bros.! And what would be the point of the Mr. Saturn item if it wasn't for the crazy bonuses?

I suspect we'll get more information on the Lottery Mode (or its similar replacement) within the next few updates, possibly even tomorrow. Hopefully some new trophies confirmed as well

The idea of having Stage 1 permanently a Zelda stage, but changing the Zelda character you fight is a great idea, and a nice mix of the first two Smash games. I'm wondering if this means only stages with 2 or more characters will be available in Classic...

Shame we can't see how many stages there are. I suspect that first screenshot has been doctored to hide greyed out later stages.

I suspect those coins would be used for buying trophies...or maybe you can buy more stuff like costumes and characters! Maybe stickers too.

Sakurai said there was no shop. Maybe Fry's idea was right and it is a claw machine, and everything bought would be random.

Sure, this wasn't an amazing update, but it's nice to see the mode back. A little disappointed in set levels (I liked them more random) but it's not bad. I do believe the ones with just one character will be thrown into a category all it's own. So Kid Icarus and F-Zero are in the same category.

They're not even saying the stages are set. It's quite possible that if each series has more than one stage then the stages could also change.

I also wonder if the "big/metal/team" thing is also randomly assigned, or only for specific characters.

Maybe it plays out like...Stage 1 is Zelda themed, so a random Zelda character on a random Zelda stage? Clearly the options will be limited from the start, but as you unlock more sh!t, the variety increases. It's a combination of SSB's set-in-stone 1P Mode, and Melee's never-the-same-twice Classic Mode. The theme set (probably) never changes from one go-through to the other, but the actual characters and stages are flexible so long as the franchise theme is still being represented by both.

Of course, this leaves me with big question marks over certain characters. I mean, unlock Ganondorf, and he'll be added to the Zelda roster, sure. Unlock Luigi and he's another Mario character. Jiggly for MY POKEMANS.

But what of the Ice Climbers, Snake and Sonic, and any other characters where there's only one representative?

Does this pretty much guarantee double characters for most franchises? Can we now expect Marth, Ness, etc. to give us options for FE and Mother levels?

My idea was......

I think most major franchises will have more then one, which are: Mario, DK, LoZ, Metroid, Kirby, Starfox, Pokemon, Earthbound, Fire Emblem

(Tei: I know F-Zero is importiant too, but I think it will have 1 rep. But if Black Shadow makes it, rub it in my face).
