Depends. I mean, Metroids do cameo in Kid Icarus, so it's obvious the two are canonical to each other. Then Kid Icarus and Zelda both take place in fantasy universes...more canon there! And since Star Fox Adventures was fantasy, it must be canon to Zelda and Kid Icarus, which in turn is also linked to Metroid by being an outer space adventure. With Star Fox comes the obvious connection with Donkey Kong, Mario, Yoshi and Wario, while the outer-space theme also brings F-Zero into the mix. Pretty much the only thing that doesn't fit is Pokémon, but Pokémon is for little kids and clearly not serious business, so who cares about that? Ah. But see, F-Zero and Metroid take place on or around Earth from the future, so that makes Earthbound part of the past. And if Earthbound is in past, that means StarTropics is canon to Earthbound. And if Washington State is canon, which is where Mike Jones lives, then that mean the Lightning American - Lt. Surge - is also canon. Therefor that means that Pokemon by extension is also canon.

Pokemon isn't set in the alternate future, is it? I know Star Tropics and Mother GIVE years. Earthbound states 19XX and Star Tropics 2 uses 1993 as the base point for the Oxford Book of Wonders. But I always figured Pokemon was just a weird alternate version of the modern day where they have funky Pokemon related tech. Regardless, Pop Star is right next to Planet Zebes so KIRBY IS CANON AS WELL

There are multiple timelines, of course...Ness is really the Earthbound-timeline version of Red, who is the Pokémon-timeline version of Mike Jones. And then Hyrule got flooded and that fucked everybody over, for shizzle!

There is no canon in anything by Nintendo. Miyamoto also said there is a timeline for Zelda and all the Starfoxes are in order and tell exactly how far each game is appart. A winnar is NOT you.

Star Fox, F-Zero and Pokémon all have a pretty strict canon. Zelda...is self-referential but the canon's not nearly as solid. And EarthBound and MOTHER3 have canon with each other as well. And I'm pretty sure that Fire Emblem games set within the same universe have canon too.

The Star Fox series DOES have an official timeline - so long as you accept that Star Fox 64 effectively overwrites the original game. Which is a shame.
And Metroid is possibly one of the most canonical game series ever.

At least now we know how all the different universes in SSB are connected to one another. See, discussing canon CAN be fun! You just gotta try! ;D You know, having a game where all these canon things are actually seen alongside one another would rock, assuming The Subspace Emissary doesn't already do that.

Yeah, the press of Brawl confirms multiplayer characters = real deal while Subspace Emissary is a different deal.
And I can't read that jumbled piece of text at the top of the screen. Either actually be funny or don't tell jokes.

It was funny. Not their fault you didn't get the joke. Don't be so condescending.

Really, Zelda is the only game where canon is an issue. Otherwise games like Mario and Kirby can be assumed to happen in release order (sans the baby games in Mario).

The only one that officially doesn't have a canon is Mario. Kirby probably doesn't either because it really doesn't matter what order they go in, they all work.
