The same goes for Mario, though. You just plug in the baby stories in the beginning (Yoshi's Island, Yoshi's Island 2, Yoshi Story, and Partners in Time) and it works.

Yeah, but we know there is no canon for this game because Miyamoto has officially said there isn't, unlike Kirby where it was never officially said.

There you go again bringing up Miyamoto. I'm almost completely certain his intention was for the fans to view the canon however they wish, not pretend there's no canon at all. This is like Orthodox Christians taking the Bible's passages to ridiculous extremes.

Having fans make up the canon, means there is no "official canon", and since canon is official, there is no canon for Mario.

But that would mean it goes: (YI - YS - YUG - YT&G - M&LPIT) DK - DKJr - MB - SMB - SMB2 - SMUSA - SMB3 - SML - SMW - SML2 - SMRPG - SM64 - PM - SMS - M&LSS - PMTTYD - NSMB I can see two problems. The first is that SMUSA is always going to be a headache. It was released after SML2 in Japan! We also know that two of the other games follow each other in terms of storyline, but they're not in release order. SML and SML2 need to be together. No biggies. Just thought I'd throw them in there. But the fact most of the games aren't tied together by any kind of story at all makes this all a bit silly really.

Heh, I've never really connected the Mario games together, myself. I knew there was a mild sense of canon to them, but I've never really paid it any mind.

I used to keep a timeline of the Mario games. It was incredible...!
And why is SMUSA a headache? Whether it takes place before SMB2 or after is of little consequence.

Only problem is Mario tends to break it's own cameo. The castle is never the same, DK in Donkey Kong is the current DK, not cranky, and they dumped the Koppa Kids for Bowser Jr.

The last one, Koopalings vs Bowser Jr, doesn't break its own canon at all - Bowser simply has (at least) 8 kids. When the Koopalings were stirring up shit, Junior wasn't there (too young? too old? with his mother? with his secret boyfriend Professor E. Gadd? whatever). And vice versa.
