Ah, my favorite MGS character is an assist. Perfect.

Gray Fox is acrobatic with his moves, I imagine they might make it work with his inner self fighting the exoskeleton and lead to.... (I'M LOOOOOSING MYSELF)... Goroh's reckless but powerful, as he's the gang leader of Red Canyon. Lyn thinks before she attacks, doing her Crit from FE7.... they're not too different but not too similar.
Why does this make me think we WILL get Takumaru or a katana wielder playable? Let's turn to a quote from our cyborg ninja here.
"I've removed all obstacles. Now you and I will <BRAWL> to the death."

Assist Trophies are their own item, too. I don't see how that makes my perspective less viable. This game is going to be humongous in all aspects; why should it fall short with a lame amount of Assist Trophies? Forty is a feeble, "we tacked this on at the last minute" number.
And I'm not calling for every Nintendo creation evar to come in the form of Assist Trophies--I'm just saying there's so many things that can be used that there can still be a lot without regressing into repetition. I imagine if Mach Rider is an Assist Trophy, he'll do something different to set him apart from Excite Bike. It's not an issue of quantity over quality so much as they should make as many as they can without resorting to redundancy. Which is why I say 100 is great. It's a high number and there's plenty of characters out there that can be original.
Besides, it's not like all repetition is going to be avoided. Goroh, Lyn and Gray Fox all do the same thing with mixed secondary effects, after all. I dunno, 40 sounds like a big amount of different helpers to me, it's not like you'll see all 40 of them in a few matches. Last minute tacked on sounds more like 15 or 10. 100 just sounds a little too much, but who knows! It's just that I'm the kinda guy that expects less so it will end up better. Just like I'm expecting Brawl to have around 30-35 characters and about 50 ATs. If the game ends up having 40 characters and 70 ATs then booyeah. However if I expected the game to have 50 characters and 100 ATs, but the game has less, I'd probably end up disappointed in a huge game likes this

As far as Brawl is concerned though, I tend to do the opposite (set my hopes high, get let down). Not very smart, but it's nice to be eager about something at least.

You just take it to the next level and expect that to be the case, and get let down when it's not. Sorry to be a bit of a downer.
