What's with all the damn complaining! Part Deux

After having checked up on this forum a lot, there is one thing I've been noticing all the time. Most of you tend to just viciously complain about almost every update that comes up on the Dojo.

You accuse certain updates of being "sucky" and a "waste of a good one" whenever anything like it at all goes up. You know, this game is not made solely for veteran players such as yourselves. It's supposed to appeal to almost everyone. And out of that, more of these people haven't even played Smash at all or are also quite inexperienced with it.

Do you remember when we used to have nothing but two preview videos of the game and only a little bit on unclear info like last year? But right now, we are all getting something completely fresh and interesting. What other game has done weekday updates about it in the past? Just be thankful that you're at least getting something out of it now than nothing for a long time. Are you gonna love this game when it comes out or not?

However, I'm sure Sakurai doesn't want to reveal every major thing about the game, so this is why you'd have to expect more minor so-called "crappy" ones than "epic" ones. "Be kind to beginners", indeed, which is what Sakurai himself is actually doing in terms of updates, especially with "How to Play" bits; appealing to everybody as a whole with them. It's not like these take away from the other bits that we've been getting.

When I saw King Dedede as a playable character, I was happy beyond words! The Subspace Emissary and its videos also made me excited! The stages, items, and assist trophies, etc. really get me going! But good Christ! You guys act like playable characters are the whole, entire game! I wouldn't be worrying about things such as characters like Captain Falcon and such. It's clearly a given that he and the others will be back. What a downgrade it would be to have characters from before removed. You just need to wait.

All in all, just try and get over it and be thankful with what you're getting so far. Sure, you don't have to like EVERY bit that comes up, but at least it's there to help the vast amounts of Smash newbies who are apparently ready for this game as well. Just be patient is all, we'll eventually get something more interesting and so forth. We always have.

Example: today's update, while seeming insignificant on a broader spectrum, was actually useful as it confirmed the reason for Super Sudden Death's absence in the Special Brawl update. Updates like the Entrances and Taunts told us the ones for characters we haven't seen yet. There's no such thing as a bad update. Say it with me...

Actually Super Sudden Death IS in the Special Brawl update, just not under that name. It's now there in the form of "Damage: 300%".

I was telling people to mellow out before it was hip. And I didn't need a whole topic to do it in, either! ;D

We've been having good updates--people are just antsy for a new character. It's given that since the game got delayed, the ones we were supposed to see between the delay's announcement and its original release date have to be stretched out over a period that's twice as long. Granted, this week in particular has been particularly feeble--I don't care what you say, How To Play and updates like Handicap deserve some new content to go along with it--but the good stuff's gonna come.

Also, I've only heard one person on this MB say they wouldn't enjoy the game in response to the updates we've been getting. Everyone else seems sane/smart enough to not resort to that kind of comment.

Well, I feel it's all right to complain about an update as insignificant as handicap mode. I mean come on! I don't think I've used it in any game I've ever played!

Anyways, we're due for something good. Dedede was awesome, but that was weeks ago.

I didn't see anyone get really upset over the lame updates...

But seriously, Sakurai could have easily doubled up handicap with a Kirby piece of music or a pokéball Pokémon. There were 29 Pokémon last time and that's a month of updates by itself. And My Music has already confirmed tons of music that Sakurai could give samples of.

And if the updates are also for beginners, like you say, then throw in Yoshi's special moves or something.

Also this is the second game I've really wanted that gave daily updates...so I'm starting to take that fact for granted.

On the one hand you're dead right, we shouldn't be complaining (though the 'appealing to beginners' idea doesn't stick with me - no person who knows nothing about the gameplay of Smash would be on the website at this point in time), but on the other hand, October gave us so many brilliant updates, and when they weren't, they were generally double updates. This month.... bupkis.

I fully support attacking people who complain that we saw these things at E4All - thats not Sakurai's fault - but come on, stuff like Handicap when we've had tons of crap for the last couple of weeks? Thats sure to leave a bitter taste in the mouth.

Maybe Sakurai's just teasing us...and at the end of the week, something amazingly awesome will be revealed...or maybe I'm just optimistic.

The problem isn't that we are spoiled or anything like that. The problem is these are bad updates. Plain and simple.

No one was upset about K. Dedede. /v/ was pretty much estatic and was the only time no said they disliked the character. Unanimously popular.

I'm not sure you and me have been checking the same website. The reason some of us are pissed (or atleast annoyed) is that, they are actually bad. I could go with taunts, but who cares. Handicaps. Again, no one cares. OH, double update, Grabbing and the third assist trophy with a sword. It's getting old.

See, these updates would be fine if they were spaced out better, but their aren't. Since Stage Builder, it's been down hill. There have been some glimmers in Fox's Misfortune and Lucas's Specials, but these week has been nothing but fillers. Sure, On-Screen Appearances and Taunts are fine, just not with in 5 days of each other. And now we have Handicaps. Oh Boy

The point is that it's not that we are spoiled. We are frustrated. I know I am. I actually facepalmed the Tuesdays update on how lame it was. I understand the delay and E for All are to blame, but it would have been nice to spread out the awesome updates instead of throwing them at us after E for All.

Also, what you said has been said since the Dojo has opened. In other words....

In fact, one could easily mistake it for copypasta. This certainly didn't warrant it's own topic. Especially since you could search the first sentence and find what you are looking for. It's REALLY old.

A string of lousy updates is better than no updates at all. In that regard, you're plenty spoiled.

What bothers me is that this is likely the last update that was translated/written prior to the announcement of the delay. Since there's a five week turnover, and the game was supposed to be released in Japan very close to now, the updates were originally intended to thin out by this point.

Since the game was delayed, I just assumed we'd get crappier and less frequent updates as time went on. Afterall, how does Sakurai magically create 3 more months of content?
